MANDATE OF THE DEPARTMENT: The Rights, Gender, Prevention and Community Mobilization (RGPC) Department aims to catalyze structural and social change by using AIDS as a pathfinder. It directs and coordinates UNAIDS' work on human rights, gender, prevention, and community mobilization, and youth participation and leadership while building internal UN capacity and accountability around these priorities. The Department builds policy and an evidence-base for 'critical enablers' to secure an effective, strategic response grounded in human rights, gender equality and diversity and contributes to achieving Universal Access and the targets of 2011 Political Declaration on HIV and AIDS. It spearheads innovative partnerships with social protection, health, development and women's movements to achieve social transformation and works to strategically engage and re-ignite the leadership PLHIV and key population movements for social justice. RGPC comprises the Human Rights and Law (HRL), Gender Equality and Diversity (GED), Prevention and the Community Mobilization divisions. Within RGPC, across the UNAIDS RSTs and supporting its overall mandate, a cross-level youth team works to increase youth leadership, ownership, and mobilization in the AIDS response at the country, regional, and global level by 2015 and beyond. | |
Main tasks and Responsibilities of the Position: In the Office of Community Mobilization, under the direct supervision of the Youth Programmes Coordinator, the Youth Programme Officer: - In close collaboration with the human rights, gender, prevention and community mobilization divisions, supports the development of comprehensive and high-quality analysis and synthesis of the latest evidence, policy and strategy developments related to young people and HIV. - Supports the development and review of technical guidance and policy on young people and HIV, with specific focus on young people living with HIV and young people among key populations at higher risk, ensuring that they are youth friendly. - With the RST Youth and Social Organization Officers, facilitates the documentation and highlights emerging and good practices regarding innovative strategies to move forward the objectives of UNAIDS youth agenda and to showcase results. - Contributes to the efforts towards sustained capacity building, including facilitating partnership, for the youth movement in the HIV response, including through supporting the development of an online learning platform for youth activists in the HIV response. - Supports the coordination of the UNAIDS Youth Advisory Forum, including facilitating their review and input into critical policy and technical document relevant to HIV and young people. Contributes to talking points, presentations and analytical briefs for the Director of RGPC and DXD Programme. - Supports the work to establish a culture of inclusion and adoption of 'youth as asset' perspective across HQ, regional and country offices, including strengthening and quality assuring the UNAIDS internship programme. - Perform other related responsibilities as assigned. | |

Education: Essential: First university degree in social science, human rights, social policy, public health, or related fields. | |

Languages: Essential: Advanced knowledge of English Desirable: Knowledge of another UN official language. | |
Additional Information: Positions at the international professional category within UNAIDS will be subject to the Organization's Mobility Policy. The above-mentioned position is a rotational position and its standard duration of assignment is linked to the ICSC hardship classification of the duty station. | |
Annual salary: (Net of tax) US$ 46,819 at single rate US$ 49,916 with primary dependants | Post Adjustment: 103.3 % of the figure(s) on the left side. This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation. |
