Volunteer Group Leader

Are you 23 years old or above? Do you have experience leading teams of young people?

Progressio is looking for voluntary Group Leaders for our youth volunteering programme in El Salvador, Honduras, Malawi, Nicaragua and Zimbabwe. This role is open to 23 year olds and above. You must be living in the UK and have either a UK passport, have indefinite leave to remain in the UK or be an EU/EEA citizen who has been living in the UK for the last 12 months

Progressio’s ICS 10-week placements offer UK-based young people - 18 to 25 years old - the lifetime opportunity to gain first-hand experience of community based development and help local organisations and communities to overcome poverty and injustice.

We are looking for group leaders with experience of leading young people. There are planned departures four times a year throughout the next three years. You’ll be in the country for six months (as the group leaders will remain in country for two 10 week placements).

You don’t have to pay to volunteer for Progressio ICS, but we do ask you to fundraise to help meet some of the costs.

Being a group leader is both challenging, and rewarding. It involves a lot of facilitation and leadership, and will provide a link between the International Citizen Service (ICS) volunteers in your group and Progressio’s staff in-country.

As a Group Leader, you’ll be the first point of contact for a team of UK volunteers carrying out placements in developing countries. This will mean supporting young adult volunteers to get the most out their experience, have a positive development impact whilst overseas, keep motivated, behave appropriately, and stay safe. This will include liaising directly with Progressio staff in-country, addressing discipline within the group and completing relevant paperwork. You’ll provide support and supervision and leadership, including regular one-to-ones with the volunteers in your team, making sure team meetings take place, that time is set aside for group learning and reflection, and that team and individual roles and objectives are fulfilled.

FINCA Malawi Manager Development Program

FINCA Malawi is looking for an experienced professional to lead efforts to analyze and improve operational and administrative processes within the subsidiary. The candidate's main responsibilities will be to work with local staff to identify, develop and implement process improvements that will ultimately drive efficiencies and improve FINCA Malawi's overall operations and delivery of products and services to its customers.

Ideal Background:

• Experience in the application of Six Sigma methodology, preferably in a commercial, retail banking or other finance field; Greenbelt training and certification highly preferred.
• Bachelors degree or equivalent and 3 - 5 years work experience in commercial, retail banking or other finance field/MA or MBA desired but not required
• Extensive experience with process mapping and process re-engineering required
• Knowledge of Visio and other relevant software applications required
• Previous field experience in developing countries required, preferably in the region of assignment

Description:

The USAID | DELIVER PROJECT is a USAID-funded global technical assistance project aimed at increasing availability of health and family planning commodities through procurement services and strengthening supply chains in developing countries. The project is implemented by John Snow, Inc.The project is seeking a Deputy Director to manage the implementation of a logistics and commodity security program in Malawi. With the Country Director, the Deputy Director represents the project to the USAID Mission in Malawi, the Ministry of Health (MOH), cooperating agencies, and community organizations. S/He promotes commodity security through collaboration and best practices in the forecasting, financing, procurement, storage, distribution, and information management of health commodities as requested by the MOH and USAID/Malawi. The Deputy Director reports to the Country Director in the project's field office in Lilongwe, Malawi and works closely with project staff members and partners. This is a full-time position requiring on-site presence in Malawi with considerable domestic travel and some international travel.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manage implementation of a parallel supply chain for donor health commodities that is operated by contracted warehousing and transportation providers and lead a team of technical staff supporting the system.
• Coordination of stakeholders and partners related to the parallel supply chain
• Monitor design of the parallel supply chain (storage and distribution) to ensure optimum performance and modify as needed to respond to commodities needs and partner needs
• Monitor contractual obligations of contracted warehousing and transportation providers
• Monitor performance of contracted warehousing and transportation providers
• Provide regular reports to USAID, MOH, and other partners on stock status and supply chain performance
• Provide technical assistance to identify and mitigate risks for and improve service responsiveness of contracted warehousing and transportation provider
• Quantification, supply planning and pipeline monitoring for USG commodities
• Assist in defining the process for approval of district orders (based on facility data), development of distribution plans for the third party logistics contractor (3PL), distribution reporting parameters, and monitoring of 3PL services.
• Overall monitoring of the overall supply (particularly warehousing/transport/delivery) of SDPs by their respective shipment and by the DELIVER run system.
• Participate in meetings to elaborate staffing requirements and M&E for service delivery and contract performance for the parallel supply chain
• Provide technical support to the malaria and family planning programs as needed.
• Support the Country Director to ensure that all technical areas of the project are integrated and maximizing the use of all available resources of the project.
• Assist the Country Director in managing project operations as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Graduate degree or equivalent education in international administration, pharmacy, public health, procurement, logistics, supply chain management or work experience.
• Significant developing country experience in supply chain management. Five or more years experience in operations and supply chain management (e.g. warehousing, contract management, distribution) required.
• Work experience with both private sector and public sector is desirable but not required.
• Proven ability to effectively network and negotiate with host government agencies, USG representatives, managers, and contractors, and NGO community. Proven success in engaging USAID and senior local government clients. Strong representational and interpersonal skills.
• Proven success in managing and implementing USAID-funded public health programs in a developing country context..
• Proven ability to rapidly analyze an existing situation, understand its strengths and weaknesses, and build on its strengths to achieve program objectives. Strong advocacy skills and ability to identify and negotiate for appropriate next steps.
• Proven ability to manage workplan activities and budgets.
• Solid experience in managing, motivating, and supervising teams. Proven capacity to work independently and to function as an effective member of a multi-disciplinary team.
• Excellent written and oral communications skills in English
• Demonstrated skills in Microsoft Office Suite applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; familiarity with Pipeline Software and Quantimed Software is a plus.
