RADIO OPERATOR & TELECOMMUNICATION ASSISTANT

Background
In the context of Delivering as One, UN Mozambique had created the OneUN Radio Room which primary responsibility is to ensure safety and security for all UN staff. The Radio Room is designed to operate with one Radio Operator during working hours when no crisis and 24x7 with three Radio Operators during crisis period. UN Agencies in the field need to track their VHF communication locally, taking into account that it cannot be managed centrally. The UN Radio Operator will provide radio communication support to all UN Agencies within the country.

Duties and Responsibilities
Expected Key Results:
  • Assure good receiving and transmitting communication order to all network users and maintain the UN OPS room in good working condition during working hours (8/5);
  • Assure that the "One UN Radio Room" Communication System is operational and ready for whenever necessary;
  • Track movements of UN vehicles in Maputo and in Provinces per radio operation SOP;
  • Carry out radio checks periodically according to Inter-Agency SOP;
  • Provide HF and VHF  operation and radio communication training to all UN staff when requested and  assist in assigning call signs;
  • Assist in the installation and maintenance of radio equipment and repeaters;
  • Assure effective maintenance of radio electricity supply system for HF and VHF.

Required Skills and Experience
Education:
  • Secondary Education completed.
Experience:
  • At least three years of progressively responsible job related experience in telecommunications such as, telephone services, radio unit, Call center or similar;
  • Experience with working with computers and using standard UN software (MS Office, Windows 7, etc.);
  • Experience working in an international organization or multicultural environment.
Language Requirements:
  • Fluency in English and Portuguese.
