The British Council in Malawi is currently recruiting for the post of Programmes Manager.

Purpose of Job

Reporting to the Country Director and as part of the Country Management Team (CMT), the Programmes Manager will be responsible for providing management oversight over Malawi’s programme portfolio. S/he will provide strategic guidance to programme delivery and will lead on the design and implementation of Malawi’s pursuit strategy for delivering partner income, co-funding and full cost recovery work in Education & English. S/he will manage the launch of new projects, including support with staffing profiling and systems set up and will also be required to create, maintain and ensure continued effective working relationships with partners.

Context and Environment

This post is responsible for the management and delivery of all Education, English and LCR activity. S/he will work closely with the Director - Schools Sub Saharan Africa and Regional Manager English for Sub Saharan Africa. 

There is a strong drive to increase income through partnerships, contracts and sponsorship in agreed areas aligned to the Education and English and this post will lead this work.
The British Council in Malawi has an office in Lilongwe with 9 people and another in Blantyre with 4. This post will manage 1 member of staff. The post holder will lead the delivery of a portfolio of projects in the areas of Education and English increasingly through partnership, and will support the delivery of major projects. This will involve strengthening project management, business development, and relationship management skills of the team to support achieving the country’s partnership and income ambitions.
