Employment at Medical Council of Malawi


Medical Council of Malawi is a Statutory Corporation established under the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Act No. of 1987 Chapter 01 the Laws of Malawi. It is charged with the mandate of setting and maintaining standards of health care in relation to premises, equipment and supplies as well as the qualifications and and employed at health establishments including their behavior conduct towards patients and clients.

In order to fulfill the aforementioned mandate, MCM is in the process of filling its vacant strategic positions, Therefore, applications are invited from suitably qualified, highly motivated and well experienced persons of Malawi origin to fill Executive Management positions tenable at the Medical Council of Malawi’s office in Lilongwe. The following are the details of the vacant position.

POSITION: Registrar

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE JOB

The Registrar shall be responsible to the Council for the efficient and effective operations of provide direction and to staff members towards the achievement of Council’s vision, mission and strategy.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION

The Registrar shall be responsible, but not limited, for the following

Support the operations and administration of Board of Directors properly informing and advising Board Members and interface between Board members and staff
Oversee the implementation of Council’s programs and delivery of quality services to the practitioners, stakeholders and the public
Prudently manage Council’s finances and assets in line with the budget guidelines and in accordance with the existing laws and regulations
Ensure that human resources are managed effectively according to authorized personnel policies and procedures that fully conform with the existing laws and regulations;
Provide secretarial services to meetings of council and subcommittees
Be custodian of Registers of medical practitioners, dentists and allied health professionals with the mandate of making amendments, alterations and any changes in the registers under his custody as mandated by Council;
Issue licenses to medical practitioners, dentists and allied health
Support interdisciplinary coordination between Council, Ministry of Health, Training Institutions, and Professional bodies; and
Carry out any other duties as assigned by the Council.

ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

The ideal candidate should have a minimum qualification of an MBBS or its equivalent plus a Masters in either Public Health or Business Management or Business Administration from a recognized University. The successful applicant must have at least three (3) years working experience at senior management level and not older than 55 years of age

APPOINTMENT AND REMUNERATION

The successful candidates shall be offered negotiable performance related contracts for a period of three (3) years with attractive salaries, benefits and packages commensurate with the seniority of the position and qualifications of the candidate.
