Role overview
You'll work collaboratively with local staff to organize training for hospital based Midwives and those in clinics for maternal, newborn and child health care. You'll provide "on-the-job" coaching and mentoring to nurses/midwives and ensure World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines are locally adapted. Support the design and implementation of medical protocols. You'll encourage monitoring of service delivery in the district and participate in maternal health promotion and awareness raising activities. The emphasis of your position will depend on the key objectives of the local partner.

Skills, qualifications and experience required
You have registration in your home nation as a qualified Midwife, with at least 2-3 years post qualification midwifery experience. You have experience coaching staff and supporting the design and implementation of best practice guidelines. You have experience of maternal health promotion activities and monitoring service delivery. VSO will assess all candidates against the following competencies, which make up VSO's volunteer competency framework. You're open minded and respectful. You're resilient and adapt well to new situations. You're able to facilitate positive change and build sustainable working relationships. But most of all, as this is the vision of VSO, you're competent to seek and share knowledge.

Countries where VSO is currently running health programmes with midwifery positions are Papua New Guinea, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania & Ethiopia.
