Committed to this ideal, Save the Children International is inviting applications for 2018 internships from final year students, 2017 graduates, or those who have completed their degrees in 2017 but are yet to graduate. Successful candidates will be deployed for 4 – 6 months some early 2018 others mid year dependent on several factors including but not limited to departmental or intern readiness. Background 
Skills for Resilience is a four year project designed to protect the livelihoods of young smallholder farmers in rural Malawi from external hazards. The project is being implemented by the TEVET Authority whose mandate is to promote, facilitate and regulate the provision of technical, entrepreneurial and vocation education and training in Malawi. With funding from the Norwergian Development Cooperation (NORAD) through the Norwegian Association of Disabled (NAD), the project wishes to develop and implement a palette of high quality, certified vocational training courses for smallholder farmers in Climate Smart Agriculture.
Scope of Work 
In line with this background, TEVETA is seeking to recruit trainers who can successfully deliver training modules in the following thematic areas:
  • Climate Change Adaptation,
  • Integrated Crop Management,
  • Entrepreneurship and,
  • Natural Resources Management.

The trainers will also be responsible for:
  • Community mobilization.
  • Coordinating with structures such as VNRMCs, VDC, ADC, ACPs and VCPCs
  • Dissemination of new approaches and technologies to smallholder farmers to enhance productivity
  • Building capacity in areas of agriculture diversification, natural resource management (soil and water conversation, conservation agriculture etc.), pre- and post-harvest management
  • Support farmer groups through field visits and training using the (FFS) Farmer Field School principle.
  • Identification of areas requiring support and capacity building within project area communities.

Essential Qualifications 
  • A minimum qualification of a certificate in Agriculture, Natural Resources Management or other related fields. Those with experience as Agriculture Extension Officers will have added advantage.
  • Ideal candidates must not exceed 60 yrs of age.
  • At least 3 years experience in Agriculture Extension, Natural Resources Management and related fields.
  • Must be familiar with the operating area.

Desired Qualifications
  • Proven communication and reporting skill.
  • This is a field based position; hence candidates should be ready to travel to the field regularly.
  • Ability to Multi- task and work under pressure
  • Ability to work independently and also as an effective team member.

Role Overview
Action Aid, in collaboration with Self Help Africa, Evangelical Association of Malawi, Plan International and ADRA, with funding from the European Union, will be implementing a programme called BETTER. BETTER with a total funding of €14.6 million with EU contributing €13.96 million is a five year programme that aims at increasing the resilience, food, nutrition and income security of 402,000 smallholder farmers in the 10 districts of Karonga, Chitipa, Mzimba, Kasungu, Nkhata-Bay, Nkhotakota, Salima, Chiradzulu, Thyolo and Mulanje. BETTER is part of the KULIMA (KutukulaUlimim’Malawi) Programme.
KULIMA Programme, with an estimated cost of €111 000 000, is funded by the EU contributing €100,000,000, and jointly co-financed by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and German Cooperation. The BETTER programme has the following specific objectives; to strengthen agricultural extension services through 13,400 FFS groups in order to secure effective and productive services for smallholder farmers in 10 KULIMA districts, to increase the absorptive/ anticipatory, adaptive and transformative capacities of 402,000 smallholder farmers to adapt to adverse effects of climate change and improve food security in 78 EPAs in 10 KULIMA districts; to improve food security for 402,000 farmers through effective livelihood diversification and technology transfer

The Project Facilitators for the BETTER project, will directly work with targeted communities in Nkhata Bay and Chiradzulu districts facilitate the identification, establishment, running, and graduation of the Farmer Field Schools. This position facilitates implementation, monitoring and evaluation to achieve the defined Project objectives /outcomes in line mandate and Project Document. This position reports to Project Coordinator
