Position Summary
The consultant will provide logistical assistance to Futures Group in implementing and coordinating the creation of an mHealth Market Access Model and Support Tools in Malawi. This work involves assistance relating to the GSMA Foundation's overall purpose of providing mHealth economic proof points that educate, empower and enable procurement managers to include mHealth in the country health budget.
The consultant will be charged with providing ongoing logistical assistance to the data collection teams before, during and after in country consultations. Prior to in country visits, the consultant will be responsible for assisting the field teams in constructing the stakeholder portfolio, working with the technical team to organize each country's steering committee and building rapport. It is expected that the consultant will have existing relationships with some or all stakeholder groups and will make initial contact with appropriate persons and/or representatives. Stakeholders are expected to include, but are not limited to the following; mobile services providers, decision makers in Ministries of Heath/Finance/Communications, health care providers (both public and private) and other mobile infrastructure organizations including those within the mobile services supply chain. Support will continue through the completion of logistics associated with the GSMA team's in country time, detailing day to day meeting agendas, local travel arrangements and accommodations. Post in-country time, follow-up data collection may be required of the consultant at the discretion of the assigned technical team members.
Key Responsibilities
  • The consultant will act as the primary coordinator for stakeholder meetings, ensuring that all critical representatives have the opportunity to contribute to the models.
  • Construct logical agendas respecting the time of the data collection team and relevant stakeholders.
  • Assist the GSMA team to coordinate in country data collectors, data entrants, analysts, and report writers.
  • Strategize with the GSMA team on issues/delays affecting data collection.
  • Assist in document preparation for steering committee members and local communications.
  • Liaise with any local GSMA representatives, associated Futures Group offices and the project team.
  • Provide other assistance as needed to the GSMA team, working in close collaboration with any associated the Futures Group, GRM or associated offices in country.
Proposed timeline
The consultancy timeline is typically over a seven week period within the span of March 1st, 2015 to October 31st, 2015. For a consultant representing a single country the maximum number of days for this consultancy is 15.
Qualifications

The UNEP DTU Partnership is seeking Research Assistants for the Low Carbon Development, Cleaner Energy Development and Climate Resilient Development Programmes
 
The UNEP DTU Partnership (UDP) Centre on Energy, Climate and Sustainable Development (formerly UNEP Risoe Centre) is a leading international research and advisory Centre on energy, climate and sustainable development. We work in close partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and have project activities in more than 50 developing countries. The Centre collaborates with a large number of international and government and research institutions, especially in developing countries. The successful candidates will join an international team of over 60 professionals in an interdisciplinary work environment that combines research, methodology development, capacity building and project implementation in developing countries.
 
The successful candidates will be engaged in a number of our international projects in activities such as analysis, concept development, capacity building and organisational support in the following programmes and key areas:
 
Low Carbon Development Programme:
 
·       Climate Finance, involving support for concrete project development as well as establishment of more generic financing models for policies and projects. Focus is on Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) and possible new market mechanisms.
 
·       Mitigation Policy, involving support for the integration of climate change related issues into development planning; formulating and implementing national/sectoral low carbon development strategies and preparation of financeable NAMAs in developing countries. This will cover areas like support for institutional capacity development, support to national processes to implement NAMAs and MRV systems. Analytical work will focus on development of tools for analyzing and prioritizing mitigation actions and baseline methodologies.
 
Cleaner Energy Development Programme:
 
·       Technology Transfer, involving support to research into factors that determine the conditions for increased use of cleaner energy technologies in developing countries, including analysis of innovation systems, implementation barriers, markets and value chains.
 
·       Energy Access, involving support for analysis of key issues related to increased access to clean energy in developing countries, such as solar PV, wind and biofuels. This includes assistance on research projects and coordination of the energy access network's thematic studies, co-authoring Summary for Policy Makers Reports, maintenance of an on-line knowledge base, and information dissemination.
 
Climate Resilient Development Programme:
 
·       Private sector adaptation and climate finance, involving supporting the development and testing of models for private sector financing and engagement in adaptation projects and policies.
·       Adaptation gap and policy analysis, including contributing to analysis and coordination of UNEP reports, economic and social assessments of climate change impacts and adaptation measures and technologies, and monitoring and evaluation of adaptation.
 
Qualifications
The successful candidate(s) should have a degree in economics, engineering, planning, environmental sciences or other relevant discipline, at a M.Sc. level or equivalent. The required competencies include knowledge and understanding of climate change, especially mitigation and adaptation policies, technologies and climate finance as well as analytical skills and experience in preparing technical and/or policy-relevant reports and papers. Relevant work experience, including work in developing countries, is an advantage.
 
Languages: The working language at UDP is English. In addition proficiency in Spanish or French will be an asset.

As part of this evolution, we are now looking for an exceptional individual to join our Africa team as a Regional Incubation Program Manager. This position will be responsible for the delivery of the Impact Hub Fellowship and Social Business Incubation programs in relation with Resilience Africa Initiative and is expected to liaise with, cultivate good working relationships, and host the framework of collaboration with the different participants and stakeholders involved. Furthermore, the development and maintenance of impact measurements belongs to his/her area of competence along with the management of communications for the program within the Resilience Africa initiative. He/she will work closely with the Impact Hub Fellowship Global Program Manager, Social Business Incubator Manager, Impact Hub Growth Manager and Impact Hub Africa Lead in establishing the Hub Fellowship’s business model and further evolving the organization.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
We are looking for an outstanding individual to help run our program business unit, working hand in hand with our Impact Hub Fellowship Global Program Manager, Social Business Incubator Manager, Impact Hub Growth Manager and Impact Hub Africa Lead. The central part of your job will be the project management for our African programs: Impact HUB Fellowship and Social Business Incubator. You will independently manage the programs, coordinate stakeholders, prepare documents and handle external communication. You will be in close exchange with your peers in the global Impact Hub network and the African Team and participate in important stakeholder meetings to further develop our programs.

As part of this evolution, we are now looking for an all-star communications manager to join our Africa team as a full-time engagement. This position will be responsible for all communications relating to Impact Hub’s Africa activities.
This is a great opportunity for someone who has extensive experience in broad and international communications campaigns, spanning various countries and who understands the challenges of limited communication channels and diverse target audiences. The nature of the virtual team will require keeping close connections with various stakeholders on the project, all geographically dispersed.

Impact Hub Africa project communications manager
  • Taking an analytics driven approach to selecting and evaluating the most effective communication channels
