Women Empowered (WE) and Village Savings and Loans (VSL) Facilitators – Balaka – 3 posts – PCI Malawi

Reporting to the WE/VSL Coordinator, the WE/VSL Facilitator will be responsible for implementing PCI’s Women Empowered (WE) model which is a type of VSL methodology that focuses on social and human capital advancements, particularly for women, WE adds on to traditional VSL methodologies by emphasising social discussions, rotational leadership, and community action, While individual and group savings reduce household vulnerability, increases in social support from cohesion are key life-changing outcomes that stem directly from participation in a group endeavour

Work with WE/VSL Coordinator to prepare materials, organise and facilitate trainings and timely technical support to Njira frontline staff, this includes technical VSL capacity building but also training and mentoring staff to introduce and facilitate discussions on social issues and action planning, Lead in recruitment, training, supportive supervision and any other necessary technical assistance to WE/VSL Community Agents, Participate in training and supervision of WE/VSL groups, Ensure quality through regular monitoring of activities, checking appropriate standards and procedures are observed in the WE/VSL methodologies, Participate in training, review meetings, M&E initiatives, etc as required, Compile and analyse monthly reports from Community Agents with his/her timely input submit reports to the WE/VSL Coordinator on monthly basis, Collect quarterly MIS data collection forms from Community Agents and check for completeness and reasonableness, ensure timely submission of forms to the Coordinator, Support in assessments or studies necessary to facilitate the effective and efficient implementation of WE/VSL groups

Diploma in relevant field or Community Development with minimum of 3 yrs work experience, Knowledge of community cultural contextual issues and extension work is a must, Willingness to live in the targeted community areas and able to speak Chichewa fluently, Good community mobilize with strong organisational skills, Licenced to ride a motorbike, An excellent team player who employs a flexible work approach, A keen interest in rural development and community initiatives.

The Lilongwe Wildlife Centre (LWC) exists under the umbrella of the Lilongwe Wildlife Trust and is the only accredited wildlife rescue, conservation and education centre in Malawi. We have about almost 200 animals at our centre including primates, antelopes, carnivores, reptiles and birds. Almost every week new animals are coming in, mainly coming from illegal trade. Job outline:
In this challenging job as animal caretaker you will be responsible for the daily care of the animals. On a daily basis you will prepare their food, clean and maintain the enclosures and observe animals to ensure their wellbeing according to outlined procedures. Whenever required you assist with the rehabilitation of animals including catching, moving and integrating animals in new groups. You work in a team of caretakers and report immediately to the Head of Department and/or the veterinarian about any problems or abnormalities regarding the animal’s wellbeing.
Required job qualifications
  • You have a big passion for (wild) animals and like to take care for them;
  • You are physically strong and able to do heavy work;
  • You are able to express yourself well in English, verbally as well as in writing;
  • You have a good eye for detail and willing to learn about animal’s behavior, how to identify health problems on time and how to maintain enclosures;

The Qualitative Researcher will initially focus on the development and implementation of the qualitative portion of the National Evaluation of the Malawi PMTCT Program (NEMAPP) study.  This longitudinal qualitative assessment will identify the successes and challengers of implement the integrated PMTCT/ATRT approach from the perspective of program implementers and beneficiaries as well as community members, The findings from this qualitative study will contribute to the implementation and roll out of the Ministry’s option B+ program by identifying specific ways that the program can be improved in the future

Contributes to the development of study protocols and coordinates efforts to finalise protocols and data collection instruments, Coordinate collection and analysis of research data in collaboration with the principal investigator and co-investigators, Implements quality control processes throughout the conduct of qualitative studies, Drafts and finalises publications for international per reviewed journals as well as for national and international conference presentations, Ensures that qualitative studies are set up and executed as stipulated in study protocols
