Lilongwe Water Board is urgently looking for suitably qualified persons of Malawi origin for the following position tenable at its Zone Offices.
Zone Accountant
Duties 
Under the Zone Manager, the Zone Accountant will be responsible for the following:
  • Ensuring that all customer bills are timely produced and checked before dispatching to the customers;
  • Ensuring that all overdue customer accounts are disconnected;
  • Ensuring that all customer meters for their respective zone have been read on monthly basis in line with the deadlines set out by the board;
  • Ensuring that all cash receipts at the zone offices are properly accounted for and promptly banked;
  • Ensuring that all used and unused manual receipt books are properly kept under lock and key;
  • Ensuring that zonal petty cash float is properly used for supporting only the operations of the Board and that proper accounting procedure is put in place;
  • Ensuring that all requisitions and issues from the zone stores are properly authorized and accounted for;
  • Ensuring that monthly Cash flow forecasts are submitted five days before the beginning of the month to which they relate;
  • Ensuring that all expenditure is accounted for by the 10th of the month to which it relates;
  • Ensuring that all applications for new connections are properly processed and that new accounts are opened for all fully paid up applications;
  • Ensuring that all customer queries are properly recorded and forwarded to the appropriate authorities for resolutions;
  • Ensuring that a proper inventory system is put in place for proper accountability of all assets under his/her charge;
  • Producing monthly reports detailing all new connections, cash collections, disconnections and reconnections e.t.c done in the month.
Qualifications 
  • Applicants must have Bachelor of Accountancy Degree. Those with ACCA part 2 plus three years work experience will also be considered.

Transport & Maintenance Officer Job at Malawi Red Cross Society (MRCS)


Malawi Red Cross Society (MRCS) is urgently seeking to engage the services of a suitably qualified, motivated, capable and experienced individual to fill the vacant position of a Transport & Maintenance Officer tenable at its Headquarters Office in Lilongwe.
Purpose of the Job
Provision and maintenance of the vehicle fleet of MRCS, manage diverse transport operations such as overseeing vehicle establishment programmes, certifying transportation budget; and will be reporting to the Human Resources & Administration Manager.
Specific duties, Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Specifically, the activities to be carried out shall include but not limited to the following:
  • Distribution, maintenance, repair and utilization of all the vehicle fleet of MRCS;
  • Allocation and proper rotation of appropriate work and assignments to the drivers;
  • Keep proper inventory of all vehicles and perform regular checks on the same;
  • Perform checks of all vehicles to ensure that they are in good working condition;
  • Keep logs regarding the total distance which is traveled by the vehicles;
  • Monitor and oversee all the responsibilities assigned to drivers, mechanics etc;
  • Supervise drivers and ensure that resources are used to maximum productivity;
  • Supervise the development and maintenance of the company’s transport safety policies, maintenance rules/regulations, and Motor Transport standard operating procedures (SOPs);
  • Supervise drivers’ tests and maintain all records of testing and license;
  • Advice on the serviceability of vehicles in use and on the disposal of the equipment deemed unserviceable or beyond economical repair.
  • Should be able to compile monthly reports on total mileage covered, fuel purchased and maintenance/services carried out on each vehicle.

Proven transport background;
  • Good knowledge of Malawi traffic rules and regulations;

  • Very good organizing ability;
  • Ability to diagnose vehicular problems;
  • Excellent inventory management skills;
  • Good negotiation skills and ability to influence others to reach a consensus;
  • Reliable and able to work under pressure;
  • Good relationship skills and ability to deal with different kind of people including drivers, staff members.
  • Computer literacy is a MUST.
Qualifications
Education
  • Malawi School Certificate of Education or its equivalent;
  • A holder of a valid SADCDriving License of code Dl, C or above;
  • Posses a Defensive Driving Certificate.
Experience
  • Minimum of three years in a busy environment.
  • Certificate in Mechanics will be an added advantage.
