Local Security Assistant

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Provides general administrative assistance to the SA and UNDSS office,
  • Assists in ensuring residential (Residential Security Measures - RSM) and office safety, and security,
  • Organises and delivers training courses on security awareness and preparedness,
  • Assists in reporting security incidents affecting UN staff a, offices and assets,
  • Supports the SA with the assessment of Security Risk Management (SRM) and Minimum Operating Security Standards (MOSS) for the duty station,
  • Assists in maintaining the Security Plan including staff lists, Assists the Security Advisor (SA) in collecting, updating and communicating information regarding the security situation in the country 
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Physically fit,
  • Ability to travel,
  • Possession of a valid driver’s licence,
  • Solid computers skills (MS Word, Excel, Access  and Power Point,
  • Knowledge of host country safety codes,
  • Knowledge of the UNDP Atlas and Budget System is an asset,
  • Experience in diplomatic security, protection and intelligence considered an asset, Knowledge of HF and VHF radio operations,
  • Minimum of 6 yrs experience in security, preferably in the military or police context or related field of work,
  • Prior experience with the UN system or an international NGO is desirable,
  • Completion of secondary education, University Degree desirable, but it is not a requirement

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Should have a minimum of four years work experience in a busy office

The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA), an organization entrusted with the assessment, collection, and accounting for tax revenues for the Malawi Government is inviting applications from versatile and suitably qualified young graduates to fill a vacant position of Customs Officer in the Customs & Excise Division.

Key Responsibilities:

Amongst other tasks, the officers will be responsible for the following:
  1. Preparing and processing import and export documentation according to customs regulations, rules of origin, laws, or procedures
  2. Advising taxpayers on import and export restrictions, tariff systems. quotas, or other customs-related matters
  3. Classifying goods according to tariff coding systems
  4. Assessment of customs duty
  5. Conferring with officials in various agencies to facilitate clearance of goods for Trade Facilitation purposes
  6. Helping to prevent the importation of illegal and/or dangerous goods including firearms, drugs, and endangered wildlife, etc. into and out of Malawi
  7. Any other duties as assigned from time to time
Qualification(s)
  • Applicants should have a sound Bachelors’ Degree ONLY in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or Bachelor of Social Science with a major in Economics and at a minimum, a Credit Award. This should be from recognized Universities.

As part of the Economics & Private Sector Development Vice Presidency, the Country Economics & Engagement Department (CEE) assesses economic trends and opportunities for private sector development at country and regional level and works closely with IFC Operations and partners in the World Bank Group in formulating country and regional strategies and conducting policy dialogue. On the other hand, the Sector Economics and Development Impact Department (SEDA) analyzes sectoral economic trends, and works closely with IFC Operations in formulating sector priorities and strategies, conducting policy dialogue, structuring, appraising, and monitoring investment projects and reporting on IFC’s impact.
Both departments, CEE and SEDA, are looking to hire multiple Senior/PrincipalCountry Economists and also Senior/Principal Sector Economists.
Country Economists will focus on one of IFC’s regions (Africa, East Asia/Pacific, Europe/Central Asia, Latin America/Caribbean, Middle East/North Africa, and South Asia).
Sector Economists will focus on private sector development in one of the following sectors: financial, power/transport, health/education, manufacturing/services and technology/telecom.
Requirements:
  •  A post graduate degree in economics/finance/public policy or other relevant graduate degree from a reputable university.
  • At least 10-15 years of experience demonstrating analytical skills in economics and private sector development work.
  • Prior work experience in the respective sector/region preferably in a Development Finance Institution (DFI) or in the private sector and track record of working on sector/country strategies and policy related aspects.
  • Knowledge of IFC or similar operational and portfolio work and a good understanding of investment projects and areas of focus is desirable
  • Excellent understanding of financial and economic concepts and data & strong analytical and quantitative skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with high level stakeholders.
