Founded in 1961, PCI is an international non-profit organization dedicated to promoting community health and integrated development worldwide. Focus intervention areas include: health and nutrition; food and livelihood security; disease prevention; and humanitarian assistance and disaster risk management. PCI employs over 600 staff and has an operating budget of $40 million that serves approximately 6 million people annually.
Job Summary:
The Country Director will lead the organization’s integrated development program portfolio in Malawi, which includes food security (strengthening agricultural production, maternal and child health and nutrition, disaster risk management, and women’s economic empowerment); HIV/AIDS capacity building of the Malawi Defense Force Medical Team and; humanitarian assistance and emergency response. The Country Director will work closely with our key partners, including the government of Malawi, USAID, OFDA, US Department of Defense, and international and local NGO partners.
The Country Director will be based in Blantyre; current food security activities operate in Balaka and Machinga Districts, while the HIV/AIDS capacity building program is nation-wide.
Duties & Key Responsibilities:
- Provide overall management, strategic direction and leadership to all the programs, ensuring high quality in program implementation, effectiveness and impact.
- Ensure effective technical guidance is provided in the design and implementation of program activities.
- Liaise with local government agencies, other international NGOs, local stakeholders, and implementing partners to ensure successful coordination of project operations.
- Ensure high quality financial management of PCI Malawi. Coordinate with the Finance Director to ensure proper internal controls and systems are in place, program budgeting is done effectively and financial reporting requirements are timely and of high quality.
- Oversee the development of PCI Malawi’s annual country budget, effective planning of program activities and execution PCI Malawi’s program budget.
- Oversee the proper monitoring, evaluation and documentation of PCI Malawi program activities, and timely quality submission of all required donor reports.
- Recruit, hire, supervise, coach and evaluate all PCI Malawi staff and consultants
- Partner with the International Office in the identification and development of new business opportunities. Lead and/or oversee the local program development efforts.
Required Qualifications:
- Master's degree required - MBA or MPH preferred
- 7+ years of experience in complex program management in an international development environment: including direct supervision of staff on complex international development programs
- 5+ years in a similar role at a similar organization level
- Excellent understanding and familiarity with US Government donor regulations
- Demonstrated abilities in NGO reporting, budgeting, procurement, and project management
- Program performance management, including program monitoring and evaluation
- Capacity to develop and mentor a team of highly qualified professionals
- Ability to collaborate with people and organizations of diverse backgrounds
- Excellent facilitation, analytical and organizational skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
- Advanced Excel and financial management abilities
- Africa regional and/or in-country experience preferred
