Position Title: Message Coordinator
Status: Temporary Position
Timeframe: August 15 – October 15, 2016
Reports to: PCI Media Impact Program Director
Location: Mozambique
Project Overview
Each year, around 6 million children die from preventable and treatable illnesses before reaching their fifth birthday. In response, UNICEF’s Facts for Life (FFL) Communication Initiative was developed as a key behavior change communication strategy in the form of a handbook that provides vital messages and information for caregivers and communities to use in protecting the lives of children. Social and behavior change communication (SBCC) has the potential to improve adherence rate and accessibility to key Facts for Life (FFL) behaviors, including infant and child feeding practices (IYCF) related to stunting. In Mozambique, stunting remains very high at 43% (DHS 2011).
In 2014, UNICEF partnered with Radio Mozambique, PCI Media Impact and the World Food Program to produce and broadcast Ouro Negro (Black Gold) in Mozambique. Ouro Negro is conceived as the FFL flagship communication program targeting women aged 15-35. Originally planned to last 84 episodes and broadcast only on national radio, Ouro Negro has now 168 episodes to be aired in the national radio station and 10 provincial stations from Radio Mozambique, 58 community radios and 2 commercial broadcasters. Ouro Negro aims to reach over 1.5 million people with compelling stories around nutrition, including IYCF; hygiene and sanitation; HIV prevention; maternal and child health; and prevention of violence and child marriage.
