Job Title: Procurement Specialist 

Summary of the Job

Implement Procurement strategies in close cooperation with Category Managers on a local level. Manage the operational and tactical procurement of goods under the following Category Clusters: Packaging, Raw Materials, Production Services, Equipment and Consumables and Logistics Services.

Main Activities / Responsibilities 
  • Manage the operational and tactical Procurement of goods and services categories in accordance with Lafarge Holcim category strategy, as well as applicable policies, procedures and specifications
  • Act as the point of contact between cluster Category Management and operations
  • Drive the realization of savings, supply efficiency, quality, and process improvements in Country, in line with regional and global strategies.
  • Identify saving opportunities and initiate individual projects and initiatives at all operational levels
  • Negotiate in close coordination with Category Management for local volumes, processes, quality levels and prices .
Tasks
  • Ensure global & local policies and procedures are conveyed to end users in the Procurement of goods and services
  • Align internal decision makers through focused communication
  • Assure compliance with applicable laws, ethical standards, policies and codes of business conduct
  • Ensure locally generated savings are reported as required, and according to category guidelines
  • Manage the buying process for the category clusters mentioned above in line with established cost, quality and delivery targets
  • Provide technical / commercial assistance to internal Users to develop awareness of manufacturing processes and improve product knowledge.
  • Act as a first point of contact for suppliers and provide guidance on the Procurement Process with respect to specifications and budgets.
  • Measure performance through KPI’s according to existing templates (Quarterly, Annually) to ensure contract compliance and manage performance improvement activities
  • Ensure continuous supply of required goods and materials and communicate any supply problems which may pose a risk or impact on business operations
  • Research the Supply Market and evaluate areas of opportunity and reduce costs where possible
  • Negotiate contracts, improved prices and terms of business with suppliers and review opportunities to make business savings utilising negotiation and procurement best practice tools and methods
  • Initiate and support the RFx process locally as defined by category strategy, and
  • Prepare purchase orders in line with final negotiations with selected suppliers and in line with Business targets and requirements.
Personal Attributes
Level of education / qualifications normally required
  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering/Physics/Chemistry or any technical degree with a relevant experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Membership of Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) / Malawi Institute of Procurement (MIPS)
Specific work experience
  • Proven purchasing experience, preferably within a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to add value, reduce costs and make business improvements
  • Contract management and supplier experience
  • Computer literate, to include advanced Excel skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, results oriented, open-minded, and analytical with a hands-on approach,
  • Strong negotiation skills;
  • Demonstrated performance in working within cross-functional teams, with requisite drive and energy to ensure that a challenging benefits and capability building agenda is successfully delivered.
  • Behavioral competencies / Leadership and managerial abilities
  • Good written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate effectively/convincingly at all levels (including technical and operational) and with all functions at least in English and local language
  • Effective time management planning and organization skills; ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities and drive tasks to completion in a fixed time-frame and in a pressured environment
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams and build relationships across multiple functions
  • Ability to deal with ambiguities, conflicts and adversarial relationships
  • Excellent negotiation skills Proven ability in analysis and interpretation of data
  • Proven ability to identify problems quickly, make sound judgments, establish and implement solutions
