Field Officers (5 Positions Locations to be determined)

CARE is an International Non-Government Organization and works in 95 countries around the world to support more than 890 poverty-fighting development and humanitarian-aid projects in the improvement of livelihoods and capacities of poor and marginalized households especially women and girls. In Malawi, CARE works in collaboration with the Government of Malawi and local partners.

CARE Malawi is part of consortium that will be implementing an upcoming programme which aims at reducing poverty and malnutrition in eight districts of Central and Southern Malawi. The project will foster inclusive and sustainable growth in Malawi’s agricultural sector, enhance resilience to climate change, empower women, and improve the nutritional status of women and children, and at the same time increase the competitiveness of marketable, nutrient-rich value chains through support for agricultural enterprises and increased access to markets and finance.
CARE Malawi seeks to recruit qualified persons to fill the following vacant positions for this programme:
Field Officer – 5 positions

The Agriculture Field Officer will report directly to the District Coordinator and will be responsible for implementing interventions in agricultural production, marketing, and processing at the field-level (actual locations to be determined).
Specific duties will include the following:
  • Promote increased production and good farming practices in the target value chains (groundnuts, soy, and orange fleshed sweet potato) at the field-level
  • Implement interventions and training programs for local farmers on improved farming techniques through the introduction of agricultural technologies
  • Implement district-level interventions and extension advisory services that stimulate smallholder farmers’ agricultural production of the target commodities
  • Mainstream nutrition, resilience, and gender into agricultural training and production activities
  • Promote improved agricultural inputs and climate-smart technologies to farming communities, cooperatives, and producer groups
  • Monitor program activities and produce written reports detailing progress
  • Liaise with community stakeholders including Care Groups, VSLAs, and additional women’s organizations
  • Provide support to the Outcome 1 Lead and the supporting Technical Specialists as needed
  • Contribute to district-level M&E, collaborating with M&E Assistants on key agriculture performance indicators
  • Assist with additional assignments in accordance with the needs of the program
Required minimum qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Soil and Crop Sciences, Agricultural Economics or related field
  • 3 or more years of experience implementing agriculture programs and training
  • Knowledge and experience integrating agriculture, nutrition, and resilience programs desired
  • Prior experience working on USAID programs preferred
  • Working knowledge of monitoring and evaluation at the field-level
  • Professional proficiency in English required
