Founded in 1987, AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) is a global organization providing cutting-edge medicine and advocacy to over 800,000 people in 39 countries. In Malawi, AHF is working in partnership with the Ministry of Health to strengthen access to quality of HlV/AlDS, Tuberculosis (TB) and Sexually Transmitted infections (STl) treatment. The organization provides cutting edge treatment and medical care in some hard to reach health facilities located across three districts , Lilongwe, Dedza and Ntcheu.
Applications are requested from suitably qualified persons to fill the following vacant position.
Comprehensive Nurses (7 Postss based in Lilongwe, Dedza and Ntcheu districts)
Overall Responsibilities
Comprehensive nurses will work hand in hand with government staff to provide nursing care to both children and adult clients in AHF clinics in Mafawi. The nurses will ensure smooth implementation of the ART service delivery, coordinate with other nurses in providing top notch HlV care, treatment and prevention programs and strengthen referral and linkage services.
Essential Duties a Rasponsibilities
- In close collaboration with the facility Medical Assistant, Comprehensive Nurses will provide quality, evidence based ART, PMTGT STI and TB services.
- They will perform skilled nursing procedures and administer medication as ordered, and within the scope of practice of the licensee.
- Establish and support effective linkages and referral of patients within and outside the facility.
- Work closely with the prevention coordinator to supervise community program staff and ensure achievement of targets and timely preparation and dissemination of reports.
- Initiate and expand PIHTC in the supported health facilities.
- Identifies and supports walk-in patients requiring immediate attention, and refer them to the Medical Assistant for treatment
- Provides patient and family education covering diet, hygiene, drug adherence and disclosure.
- Collaborate with government staff in the delivery of quality services to all clients
- Supports the clinic in establishing effective patient follow up mechanisms, and ways of retaining all patients in care.
Education and Experience
- Diploma in Nursing with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in HlV care and treatment.
- Must be trained in pediatrics and adult HlV Management.
- Must be highly organized and capable of effective multi-tasking
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in setting up mechanism for patient follow up and treatment adherence
- Knowledge of clinical protocols and procedures in the management of HIV related diseases.
- Registered with Nurses and Midwives Council of Malawi
Other Skills and Responsibilities
- Sensitivity to ethics and confidentiality of HIV/AIDS client issues
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Excellent report writing prompt and effective communication using charts and graphs.
- Willingness to relocate and work in remote health facilities of Malawi
