Training Coordinator


The University of Malawi, College of Medicine (COM) was established in 1991 as a constituent college within the University of Malawi. CoM’s mission is to be an academic center of excellence in the training of doctors and other health professionals in clinical service and medical research, responsive to the health needs of Malawi and its neighbors within the Southern African region. The CoM established the Research Support Center (RSC) in 2006 to stimulate, facilitate and coordinate the conduct of policy-relevant research activities and consultancies within the college and its research affiliates. The vision of RSC is to become a centre of excellence in research support and grants management. RSC’ mission is to support local researchers in the design and conduct of clinical research, to introduce ICH-GCP quality research standards, to provide comprehensive ongoing training and to develop a research agenda and climate, that will allow successful competition for international grants that impact local health policy.
Provision of research training courses to faculty, students and researchers is one of the key functions of Research Support Center. The role of the Training Coordinator will be to provide oversight over the delivery of research training courses.
The responsibilities of the Training Coordinator include the following:
  1. Establish and maintain an up-to-date database of research training courses to ensure the delivery of timely and accurate reports.
  2. Establish and maintain an up-to-date database of course facilitators.
  3. Conduct periodic research training needs assessments in liaison with CoM Head of Departments.
  4. Develop a Training Development Program and monitor and evaluate this program using the necessary channels.
  5. Facilitate accreditation of training courses.
  6. Develop training calendars and ensure these are implemented accordingly.
  7. Coordinate all training sessions i.e., identify facilitators and facilitate development of course materials.
  8. Market available training courses and provide necessary information.
  9. Organize and oversee to the logistics of hosting training courses.
  10. Order supplies for training as needed.
  11. Administer and process training registrations and assessments.
  12. Collect and distribute training materials to course participants
  13. Collect, compile and submit reports on results of evaluation, attendance and training data.
  14. Maintain an updated curriculum database for all key training programmes hosted by the RSC
  15. Coordinate research clinics, research seminars and annual research dissemination conferences.
  16. Identify research training funding opportunities and facilitate writing of relevant training grants.
  17. Perform the related and other duties as assigned from time to time.
Qualifications and experience:
  • Masters Degree in Education, Organizational Development, Human Resources or related field.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple assignments.
  • Proven work experience as a trainer or training facilitator and coordinating conferences and training events.
  • Ability to conduct training needs assessments.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work effectively with a wide range of people and teams.
  • Ability to plan, develop, coordinate, monitor and evaluate trainings.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
