The Malawi Local Government Accountability and Performance (LGAP) project will Improve the performance of local government in Malawi by improving capacity and accountability of local governments in the districts where it will work, strengthening citizen engagement and oversight, and improving the broader national policy and systems environment for decentralization. While doing so, LGAP will directly assist USAID Malawi to operationalize its integration approach.
Communications Officer
Overview:
The Communications Officer will work closely with project staff to draw from a wealth of USAID experience to develop sophisticated project communications materials. The Officer will work from Lilongwe office and may travel to other locations to conduct aspects of the required work.

Tasks:
The Communication Officer will support the project team in developing project impact and success communications materials. He/She will work closely with the Chief of Party, Outreach and Communications Specialist and project technical staff.

Tasks include:
- Inform and implement the LGAP communication strategy, including utilization of social media platforms, for internal and external communications.
- Develop innovative communication products to actively engage LGAP stakeholders across the region, including institutional and private sector partners.
- Assist in the preparation and conducting of the LGAP outreach campaigns in the 8 LGAP districts
- Develop messages and information about project activities appropriate for Billboards, Facebook, Twitter, and other social media sites
- Assist in the compilation of weekly updates to be submitted to the Outreach and Communications Specialist before final submission to USAID Malawi
- Develop content for the project’s website in coordination with the Outreach and
Communications Specialist - Contribute features to the daily papers for publication
- Write success stories for publication in the quarterly newsletter, LGAP social media pages and website
- Manage the media contact database
- Assist in the report writing
Grants Specialist
Purpose:
The Grants Specialist will administer the LGAP Grants Fund, ensuring effective planning and implementation of grants under contract (GUC).

- Administer LGAP’s Grants Fund, ensuring that grants adhere to USAID and DAI regulations, procedures, and policy guidance
- Coordinate closely with the Social Accountability Manager and regional embedded teams on grant design, competition, negotiation, and implementation
- Evaluate grant applications and awards, manage grants records, and ensure post-award management in accordance with USAID regulations and DAI policy
- Contribute data and analysis to monthly, quarterly, annual and ad hoc communications and reports, and to ME&L reports
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Location and Reporting:
The Communication Officer will be based in Lilongwe, Malawi and will report to the Communication Specialist.
