Background: The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) invites applications for a nationally recruited position of CLERK OF WORKS. To be based at the IITA-MALAWI station in Chitedze, Lilongwe.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- A Higher Diploma/degree in Civil and or Building Engineering or Architecture.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience at active construction sites
- Must be able to work long hours, communicate well, have good reporting skills and be able to multitask
- Excellent communications skills including verbal and written English
- Knowledge of MS Project an added advantage
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- SUPERVISION OF BUILDING SITE: Monitor and track the CONTRACTOR’S works on site including the materials supplied, workers on site and works done daily.
- KEY SUPERVISION: Interpreting of drawings and specifications and ensure that the contractor follows the consultant/project managers approved instructions accordingly. Report any discrepancies sited to the consultant and IITA project manager.
- MATERIALS AUDIT: track the inventory by recording the materials onsite daily; including the materials supplied, utilized and stored.
- WORKERS AUDIT: track the workforce on site by recording how many by each specialty have come in on site and worked all day.
- TIME AUDIT: track the work plan and daily tasks and see where the contractor is going behind schedule and report; include reasons for delays.
WORK METHODS
- Provide daily detailed reports as per provided site logs
- Provide pictorials evidence of works done on a daily basis to buttress the written reports on works done.
- Call/email consultant and or Project manager to report any issues arising that require their input before issuing instructions.
