THE ORGANISATION
MUST is a new University and the fourth public university established by the Government of Malawi in December, 2012. It was officially opened on 24th October, 2014. The University is situated in the Southern part of Malawi in the beautiful highlands of Thyolo District about 27 kilometres East of Blantyre City. lt has four Schools: Malawi Institute of Technology; Ndata School of Climate and Earth Sciences;Academy of Medical Sciences; and Bingu School of Culture and Heritage.

Software Developer
The Software Developer shall be responsible for developing software packages and systems based on the University’s existing needs. The individual shall join the University ICT team in working with other university stakeholders to ensure that software systems developed meet user and business requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities
Among others, the Software Developer will carry out the following duties and responsibilities:
- Work with a team of other developers to design, implement and maintain software
programs and systems. - Clearly communicate with users and work with systems analysts to gather and analyse user requirements.
- Produce clean, efficient code and associated technical and user documentation based on specifications
- Reverse engineer existing software to review functionality.
- Test software and fix bugs.
- Collaborate with other developers on projects via online collaboration tools.
Qualifications, Attributes and Experience
Interested candidates should possess the following attributes:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or any related field from a recognised university.
- At least two (2) years post-qualification experience in a similar position in the private or public sector.
- Working knowledge of database design, SQL and NoSQL database platforms.
- Demonstrated knowledge of front and back end web languages and technologies such as HTML CSS, JavaScript, PHP/Python/Ruby, AJAX, and REST, Knowledge of web MVC frameworks such as Laravel, Symphony or zend with be an added advantage.
- Practical knowledge of Java,Cor C++
- Working knowledge of version control systems.
- Sharp analytical and problem solving skills
- A highly motivated individual, able to continuously learn, work with others in a team and accommodate dissenting views
Systems Administrator (E-Learning)
The E-Learning Systems Administrator shall be responsible for designing, deploying and providing learning management systems and platforms for the university and aid university faculty and students in utilizing modern learning and teaching technologies.
Duties and Responsibilities
Among others, the E-learning Systems Administrator will carry out the following duties
- Work with the university’s software engineering team to identify, analyse and specify learning and teaching systems
- Design, deploy and provide learning management systems for the university academic programmes and courses.
- Aid university faculty in digitizing and deploying teaching content.
- Train staff and students in utilizing the latest E-learning technologies, online learning resources and tools,
- Create multimedia learning material for academic programme modules and courses.
- ldentify and monitor key indicators that demonstrate effective use of e-learning
Qualifications, Attributes and Experience
Interested candidates should possess the following attributes:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Education Technology, or any IT related field from a recognised university
- At least three (3) years post-qualification experience in administering e-learning systems or similar work.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Linux-based web, FTP and DNS administration.
- Working knowledge of learning management systems such as Moodle, Blackboard or Knowledge of E-learning standards, such as SCORM.
- Practical knowledge of massive open online courses (MOOCs) platforms.
- Excellent communication, organization, analytical and problem solving skills.
- A highly motivated and resourceful individual, able to continuously learn, work with others in a team and accommodate dissenting views.
- Knowledge of server virtualization technologies and e-learning multimedia authoring tools such as Adobe Captivate will be added advantages.
