Recruitment in Zimbabwe - 8/10/2014

Chemonics seeks multiple long-term technical specialists for an anticipated multiyear, USAID-funded livestock development program to assist the government of Zimbabwe. The program aims to improve both household and national food security and reduce poverty by increasing agricultural production, productivity, and market linkages; enhancing nutrition and hygiene practices; and strengthening local capacity to implement agricultural development programs. It focuses on two subsectors: beef cattle and dairy cattle. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.
We seek technical specialists in the following areas:
  • ​Livestock production
  • Livestock value chain development
  • Local capacity building
  • Improving rural livelihoods
  • Behavioral change communications
  • Water and sanitation, nutrition, and/or maternal and child health
  • Gender analysis in agricultural
  • Grants management
Responsibilities include:
  • ​Provide technical input to project implementation to achieve targets in food security and livestock production goals
  • Ensure that all project assistance is technically sound and appropriate for the local context
  • Write and contribute to reports and other deliverables
  • Liaise with the government of Zimbabwe, stakeholders, and counterparts in the public and private sectors
  • Implement a strategic, long-term programmatic vision collaboratively​
Qualifications:
  • ​University degree in agriculture, food security/nutrition, economics, or related technical area
  • Minimum three to eight years of relevant development experience in Southern Africa designing, implementing, and managing USAID or other donor-funded development programs
  • Significant experience in key areas listed above with ability to achieve program targets
  • Strong ability and desire to work collaboratively with the government of Zimbabwe, international donors, and local partners
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of applicable technologies
  • Experience in monitoring and evaluation, data collection and management, and knowledge sharing
  • Interest in building capacity of local partners
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
  • Fluency in English required
