Director of Studies – Mzuzu University – Luwinga
Post of Director of Studies is a Principal Officer position as set out in the University Statutes, It is a 4 yr contract position

Proven track record of scholarship and research into teaching, learning and assessment, Proven track record of supervising professional staff and promoting their professional development, Use of and implementation of instructional technologies and e-learning, Learning and assessment strategies, Strategies for organisational development, programme consultation, group and team building, the influence of environmental factors on teaching and learning, and familiarity with English as second language learning environments, Theories of learning and curricula design and innovative teaching approaches (e.g. collaborative learning, problem based learning, learning styles etc
The Director of Studies will be expected to have a PhD with a minimum of 5 yrs post PhD experience in a higher education teaching and learning environment, preferably in a leadership role, including experience in designing and delivering faculty development programmes and services
Ensure that high quality programmes are delivered at course level including through provision of adequate teaching and learning materials, Ensure system wide implementation of course outlines assessment and evaluation procedures, Develop and induction and training programme for staff development, particularly for Staff Associates and Graduate Tutors, Develop proposals for the improvement to teaching , learning and assessment, Initiate longitudinal and other studies on teaching, learning and assessment, Collaborate with Centre for Open and Distance Learning (ODL), Faculties and the university Library to ensure the expansion of online/technology-enhanced courses and programmes as well as related staff development support and training and capacity building, Ensure that various forms of financial and other support for strengthening academic programmes trough teaching, learning, assessment and mentorship are available and sustained the Director of Studies is answerable to the Vice Chancellor and has responsibility for promoting and enhancing the teaching and learning functions of the university
S/he will have particular responsibility to the Senate for the creation and coordination of academic initiatives and maximising the efficient use of teaching staff across the faculties and the Centre for Open Distance Learning
S/he shall collaborate with the University Librarian, Deans of Faculty, the Director of the Centre for Open and distance Learning, Heads of Academic Department, the Director of Research, the Director of quality Assurance and Enhancement, and the Director of ICT, The Director of Studies will be a member of Senate and other statutory committees of the University
