RECRUITMENT AT PEACE CORPS MALAWI


Peace Corps, an International Development Agency of the U.S. Government, has an immediate opening for Program Assistant – Education. She/He will be responsible for the support of Peace Corps Education Volunteers. The successful candidate will work together with the Associate Director for Education and the Programming and Training Assistant to coordinate, plan and provide technical assistance in the design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the PC Malawi Education program. He/she will assist the Associate Director for Education with site development, orientation, training of new Volunteers and current, liaison with other staff, maintaining relationships with Government, Partner and Cooperating Organizations, collection and dissemination of information, development of educational materials for Volunteers, and planning and facilitating workshops. This position also involves significant travel across the country identifying new sites for upcoming groups and monitoring Volunteer work progress and accomplishments. The successful candidate will work with the Associate Director Education to develop specific work objectives and plans to implement and manage the Education portfolio for Peace Corps Malawi.
QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants should have at least three to five years of practical experience in community development work, adult training and/or teaching experience and program management. The candidate must have the ability to work independently, yet have demonstrable interpersonal and team building skills. Previous experience working with Americans or a USG agency is highly desirable. Knowledge and experience in gender-related programming is a plus.
Additional requirements include:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education or Health.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the challenges, core concepts, initiatives and evidence-based interventions in the education or health fields in Malawi;
  • Demonstrable maturity and professionalism and the ability to represent the Peace Corps Malawi with Government of Malawi colleagues, U.S. Government counterparts and donor/ NGO partners;
  • Demonstrable writing & computer skills (including Microsoft Office), and the ability to prepare annual program and budget reports and develop resource materials (such as manuals, training designs, pamphlets, and policy and statements);
  • Thorough knowledge of structure, development plans and operations of Govt. of Malawi Ministries, and ability to develop and maintain high –level contacts.
  • Demonstrable very strong adult training skills and experience is preferred;
  • Demonstrable proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Creativity and innovation in designing and implementing practical trainings and creative program ideas to address education and health challenges in Malawi.
