Program Officers - 5 posts
Will be mid level members of the project team reporting to the Deputy Chief of Party of the Health Communication for life Project and will be based and will work in the Northern, Central East, Central West, South East Zone and South West Health Zones of Malawi and will liaison/collaborate and coordinate with regional and local NGO partners, Malawi Ministry of Health (MOH), NGOs, community organisations, USAID , USAID implementing Partners and others, to achieve the implementation of an integrated health program encompassing malaria, nutrition, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH) family planning and reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, food safety/security and other related health issues
Will provide specialised technical assistance to MOH, other USAID IPs, local civil society and partner organisations to develop SBCC health communication strategies, review, plan and manage implementation of evidence based SBCC interventions and community mobilisation, especially at the zone to which they are assigned, The SBCC Program Officers will work closely with the M&E and Media Officers to develop systems and strategies for monitoring SBCC interventions including reach coverage and impact of campaigns in the assigned zones
A minimum of a university degree in communication, social science, behavioural change communication, strategic communication, journalism, public relations, marketing or related field, 3-6 yrs of experience in implementing and managing international health/development programs at the zonal, district, community and household level, Knowledge of state of the art social an change communication models and strategies and their practical application to malaria, MNCH, family planning, nutrition, WASH, HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment and related areas, as well as strong public health technical knowledge in at least one or more of these fields, Demonstrated experience in the development of evidence based SBCC materials particularly electronic and print media, Excellent oral/written communication skills in English and 1 or more additional Malawian languages required, Very strong writing skills will be required to develop program materials and report on program progress,, Knowledge of evidence based, innovative and practical solutions to communication challenges at the community and household level, Field experience in developing and implementing SBCC projects and programs in Malawi at the zonal, community and household level that have demonstrated impact at scale, Understanding of widely accepted formative research, pretesting and monitoring and evaluation methodologies for effective SBCC interventions, Demonstrated strong technical, programming and management skills, Demonstrated interpersonal and negotiation skills and experience working in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, partners, donors and NGOs, Ability to set priorities while multi tasking and meet deadlines, independently with minimal direct supervision, Proven ability to work as an effective team member and engage monthly when necessary
