CARE is an International Non-Government Organization that supports the improvement of livelihoods and capacities of poor and marginalized households in collaboration with the Government of Malawi and local partners.
CARE International in Malawi is implementing the Increasing Mitigation, Productivity, and Adaptation through Climate-smart Techniques (IMPACT) Project which aims to mitigate the impact of the El Niño drought on household food security. IMPACT will be directly implemented by CARE in Nsanje District, and through the Adventists Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) in Phalombe and Mulanje Districts. CARE Malawi therefore seeks to recruit suitably qualified persons to fill the following vacancy available in Nsanje district.
Field Advisors (3 Posts)
The Field Advisor is responsible for implementing project activities in accordance with project plans, budgets, and CARE and USAID/OFDA standards. Primary tasks include community mobilization, training/capacity building of local structures and committees, efficient distribution of project goods and services, and monitoring and reporting.

The Field Advisor is responsible for implementing project activities in accordance with project plans, budgets, and CARE and USAID/OFDA standards. Primary tasks include community mobilization, training/capacity building of local structures and committees, efficient distribution of project goods and services, and monitoring and reporting.
Specific duties for this position include the following:
- Coordinate all activities with district and local government representatives, including Civil Protection Committees at all levels
- Implement all project activities according to project work plans within agreed-upon timelines
- Orient district and community structures on El Nino and its impact on food security
- Identify and verify vulnerable households in target communities in coordination with VCPCs and local leaders, using participatory vulnerability assessment techniques
- Train district and local government structures in community-based adaptation (CBA) to climate change and support them to implement CBA plans
- Identify, train, and support Lead Farmers to promote irrigation, post-harvest management, vegetable production, and VSL interventions in targeted
communities, according to CBA plans - Set up and train representative, community-led Accountability and Quality Assurance Committees in each GVH and participate in monthly reflection meetings with community stakeholders to review project performance
- Collect and report data on project activities according to the M&E plan
Required Qualifications and experience
- A Diploma in Community Development or a related field plus at least 3 years experience in emergency response/humanitarian assistance, agriculture, gender, and/or participatory methodologies for social change processes.
- Knowledge of community mobilization and participatory development practices
- Ability to plan and facilitate trainings to adult learners at the community level
