THE ORGANISATION

ESCOM is a Limited Company Incorporated under the Companies Act of the Laws of Malawi. Its core business is to purchase and transmit, distribute and supply electricity in Malawi and beyond.

DIRECTOR    OF    DISTRIBUTION    AND CUSTOMER SERVICES
General Description of the Job
The Director of Distribution and Customer Services shall be responsible to the Chief Executive Officer in the performance of his/her duties and responsibilities to effectively manage the Distribution and Customer Services Division of the Corporation. ‘
Key Responsibilities
The Director of Distribution and Customers Services shall be responsible, but not limited, for the following:
  1. Guiding and overseeing the overall Distribution and Customer Services Division’s functions in line with the Corporation’s set goals;
  2. Continuously monitoring and evaluating implementation of strategic and operational plans of all departments under the Division and taking immediate remedial measures where necessary;
  3. Ensuring compliance with relevant laws, regulations and policies;
  4. Ensuring that customers are provided with electricity In line with ESCOMs
    corporate and service charters;
  5. Reducing losses of electricity of all kinds;
  6. Ensuring that the operations and maintenance of the distribution system
    and network and associated ancillary equipment are properly managed and
    maintained at all times to ensure smooth operations;
  7. Directing and guiding the System and Marketing Operator Division in the
    preparation of inputs to the Corporation’s strategic and business plans and ensuring the submissions contribute to the Corporation’s mission and objectives;
  8. Ensuring timely preparation, Implementation, review and control of the Division’s Revenue and Capital budgets to facilitate implementation of the strategic and operational plans of the division;
  9. In liaison with other division heads, ensuring that the material, human, and financial resources are available for smooth implementation of the division’s strategic and operational plans;
  10. Formulating policies, technical or otherwise relating to the Distribution operation and maintenance functions;
  11. Under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer, representing the Corporation on the Power Institute of Eastern and Southern Africa (PIESA) Board and at other Distribution-related forums; and
  12. Carrying out any other duties as assigned by the Chief Executive Officer.
Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate should have a minimum qualification of a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and a relevant Master’s Degree from a recognized University. The applicant must also be a registered member of the Malawi Board of Engineers.
Applicants must have ten (10) years experience of which at least five (5) years should be at senior Management level. Applicants with experience in the power supply industry will have an added advantage.
