The International Training and Education Center for Health (I-TECH) is a center in the University of Washington's Department of Global Health, in partnership with the University of California, San Francisco. I-TECH has offices in Africa, India, and Haiti, and projects in more than twenty countries. I-TECH's approximately 500 worldwide staff work with local ministries of health, universities, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), medical facilities, and other partners to support the development of a skilled health work force and well-organized national health delivery systems. I-TECH's activities occur primarily in the technical areas of health system strengthening; health workforce development; operations research and evaluation; and prevention, care, and treatment of infectious diseases.
I-TECH has been privileged to provide technical support to the Government of Malawi Ministry of Health (MoH), since 2008, through seconded senior Technical Assistants, Program Officers and Public Health Fellows. The International Training and Education Center for Health (I-TECH) was established in 2002 at the University of Washington in Seattle. I-TECH is funded by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Division of Global HIV and TB (CDC-DGHT) under the US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).
I-TECH Malawi wishes to recruit highly qualified and experienced person to fill the following position
Position Overview:
The Paediatric HIV Care and Treatment Technical Advisor aims at working with Clinic Coordinator and the Clinical Technical Advisor to ensure the enhanced delivery of quality services to Lighthouse clients, and to take a lead in systemizing the services and developing the capacity building function with a focus on pediatric and adolescent HIV case finding, linkage to care, and initiation and retention on ART. The TA serves as the clinical lead for Paediatric HIV at Lighthouse and works with all management members and staff to strengthen Lighthouse’s technical leadership and technical guidance for delivering child and youth friendly HIV services with high quality standards that can be adopted at other facilities in similar settings. The TA will assist to develop a comprehensive approach for paediatric HIV to enhance the impact of Lighthouse programs through the expansion of evidence based interventions and models of care to reduce morbidity and mortality in HIV positive children and adolescents.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Management and Oversight (40 %)
Oversee the operations of the Lighthouse Clinics, by working closely with Clinic Coordinators to ensure service quality, including mentoring and supporting clinicians to manage complications of pediatric, adolescent and also adult HIV infections as family centred approach and antiretroviral treatment (ART) such as ART failure, toxicity and co- treatment for other communicable and non-communicable diseases
Program Management (40 %)
- Provide evidence-base support on paediatric HIV at the Lighthouse
- Strengthen the EID program and as well as the POC-EID project at Martin Preuss Centre
- Promote innovative programming in paediatric HIV at Lighthouse
- Provide technical assistance, training, and mentoring to support Lighthouse on Paediatric HIV
- Develop state-of-the-art training materials and systematically update technical and other staff on paediatric HIV
- Create an enabling environment for HIV testing, treatment and care services for infants, children and adolescents by updating policies.
- Support building organizational capacity in paediatric HIV
- Assist in developing and maintaining key programmatic partnerships in paediatric HIV
- Serve as Lighthouse point of contact for paediatric HIV issues
- Represent Lighthouse in external meetings, working groups related to paediatric HIV
Implementation Science (20 %)
- Support Lighthouse team in the design and implementation of new paediatric HIV interventions including EID and POC-EID and strengthen components in current programs
- Consult on and support evaluation and operations research activities to document the outcomes and impact of paediatric and adolescent HIV programs, as well as in the identification of priority research and evaluation questions.
- Contribute to documentation of program experiences in paediatric and adolescent HIV as well as enhanced knowledge sharing to internal and external audiences around Lighthouse program experiences including publishing in peer-review journals
- Participate in various time-bound and standing internal technical/programmatic working groups as assigned
Required Qualifications and Experience:
- MBBS / MD with post graduate training either in paediatric medicine or family medicine and experience / education in HIV management with at least 5 years of relevant work experience
- Programmatic experience in resource limited settings working in the area of HIV care and treatment
- Strong experience in providing mentorship and technical assistance
- Self-motivated and demonstrated success in building effective programs in resource-limited settings
Skill and Competences:
