Deputy Chief of Party, Malawi

Project background
CNFA is currently seeking applications from qualified candidates for its Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP) of an anticipated USAID Feed the Future Malawi Ag Diversification Acitivity. The activity contributes to USAID/Malawi's Feed the Future goal of sustainably reducing poverty and malnutrition in eight districts of Central and Southern Malawi. This activity fosters inclusive and sustainable growth in Malawi's agricultural sector, enhances resilience to climate change, empowers women, and improves the nutritional status of women and children, and at the same time increases the competitiveness of marketable, nutrient-rich value chains through support for agricultural enterprises and increased access to markets and finance. Ag Diversification is a central component of USAID/Malawi's integrated, multi-sector approach to improving Malawians' quality of life.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • A Master's degree in international development, agriculture/agronomy, environment, or related field of study;
  • 7 years' professional experience in developing countries, some of which should be in Africa, in food security and agronomy in managing or implementing development programs.
  • Skills in value chain and market systems development, including such aspects as finance, input supply, output markets, and supporting services (including post-harvest handling);
  • Expertise in value chain/market system facilitation approaches, including the use of 'good practices' principles, behavior change methodologies, and tactics to address incentives and disincentives in the system;
  • Skills in developing local systems that will sustain the value chains over time ;
  • Agricultural productivity skills, including expertise in relevant technologies, improved practices, seed systems, integrated soil fertility management, water management, and climate smart agriculture;
  • Skills, expertise and experience in climate change adaptation, risk reduction, and resilience building for smallholder farmers;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of USAID rules and regulations;
  • Demonstrated, excellent writing and oral presentation skills in English are required;
