Guest House Manager- Malawi


We are looking for a new Manager of our Volunteer/Guest House in Lifuwu village, near the tourist favorite of Senga Bay in central Malawi. It's a beautiful guest house on the shores of Lake Malawi with two dormitories, a private room, and a private cottage. The guest house always accommodates between 8 and 15 volunteers for the non-profit organization help2kids and sometimes guests.

Latest start date is to arrive in Malawi by August 8th 2016. If applying as one half of a couple, the benefits include a small, secure private house with electricity and running water (but no plumbing) off site, as well as a shared car with the field manager. Most meals are provided at the guest house.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Management of the Volunteer/Guest House Friendly Gecko (14 beds)
  • Handling and support of office administration for the Volunteer House
  • Handling of all volunteer and guest accommodation concerns as needed; may include weekend hours
  • Managing a team of 7 local staff members, house repairs, and supply chain logistics for the Volunteer House
  • Maintenance and upkeep of the organization’s two vehicles
  • Weekly reporting to the Board with updated accounting
    What we expect
  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences or hospitality
  • Experience working in sub-Saharan Africa
  • Fluency in English (German or familiarity with Bantu languages would also be a benefit)
  • Driver's license (must have)
  • Commitment for 12 months
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of social media, online content management systems (WordPress), and Adobe Creative Suite preferred
  • Outgoing personality, flexibility and creativity, open-minded
  • Passion for working in an international environment with a lot of different people and cultures
