Project Nurse/ Nurse Trainer (2 Positions)


The College of Medicine, with funding from the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) in Canada is embarking on a project called ‘Integrating a Neonatal Health Care Package in Malawi (IMCHA 108030-001). The project is aimed at improving neonatal care in selected district hospitals in the southern region.
Applications are therefore invited from interested and qualified individuals to fill the following posts, tenable at the College of Medicine in Blantyre.
Duties and Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
  1. The incumbent will take the lead in the training of health care workers in the hospitals involved in all aspects of the project.
  2. The applicant must be a registered nurse or an enrolled nurse with at least two years experience in neonatal or Paediatric care and research.
  3. Previous experience in neonatal care nursing, Kangaroo Mother Care and work in infant feeding will be added advantage. Those previously involved as trainers will stand a better chance.
  4. The applicant must be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Malawi.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of a Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery
  • At least two (2) years of work experience in a similar position.

Project Nurse (5 Positions)

Duties and Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
  1. The incumbent, based at the Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre, will be involved in providing routine and research related care for infants involved in the project, as well as general care of infants admitted at the hospital.
  2. The incumbent will also assist, where required, in data collection and training activities related to the project, in conjunction with the Nurse Trainer and the Data Clerk.

Data Clerk

Duties and Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
The Data Clerk will be responsible for collection, entry and management of both qualitative and quantitative data emanating from the project, under the direction of the project coordinator and the project core leadership team.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of a diploma in data management or related subjects.
  • At least two (2) years of work experience in a similar post.

Assistant Accountant


The College of Medicine, a constituent College of the University of Malawi is looking for suitably qualified individuals to fill the position of ASSISTANT ACCOUNTANT for the various projects at Research Support Centre, tenable at the Blantyre campus.
Duties and responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
  1. Preparing and coding projects data posting sheets for purchases and creditors and submitting them for checking and approval.
  2. Attending to all queries relating to projects purchases and creditors.
  3. Collecting statements from suppliers and debtors and checking them for arithmetic accuracy.
  4. Preparing schedules for long outstanding creditors and debtors for write off.
  5. Following up on projects general debtors by sending out reminders.
  6. Collecting data on projects purchases i.e. copies of orders, invoices, credit notes, copies of approved purchase requisitions and proforma invoices to support creditors’ payments.
  7. Preparing and coding data posting sheets for projects general debtors and submitting them for checking and approval.
  8. Attending to all queries relating to projects general debtors.
  9. Preparing payment vouchers for projects general debtors refunds, creditors, direct purchases and staff claims.
  10. Filing copies of orders, approved purchase requisitions, supplier delivery notes, and goods received notes issued by stores for projects.
  11. Any other duties assigned from time to time.

Clinic Project Coordinator


Reporting to: College of Medicine Registrar
College of Medicine a constituent college of University of Malawi is looking for a well qualified Malawian to be the Project Coordinator to oversee the progress of the clinic project until the clinic becomes operational and beyond.
College of Medicine has embarked on a project of renovating and then running the college clinic which is based in Mount Pleasant in Blantyre
In fulfillment of its vision of being relevant to the community but also as part of its income generating strategy, the College shall provide health services   on commercial basis to its clients.
Purpose of the job 
The Project Coordinator shall be responsible for the day to day management of the Mount Pleasant Clinic Project (MPCP) which shall be implemented as part of income generating activities for College of Medicine.
Main Duties 
The following shall be the main responsibilities but not limited to:
1. Planning
  • Develop and implement monthly, quarterly and annual work plans in line with the project Gantt chart.
  • Review work plans to determine the progress of work and effect adjustments in line with the overall implementation plan.
