Applications are invited from suitably qualified Malawians, Civil Servants or non-civil servants as the case may be depending on the requirements of the post, for the vacancies listed below existing in the Civil Service.

Vac. 18/17
Post: Chief Infrastructure Officer (Grade F)
Salary: Within the Grade F salary scale segment
Location: Railway Services Department, Lilongwe
Qualifications
  • Applicants should be in possession of a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering obtained from accredited institutions with a minimum of five (5) years of post-graduate work experience in maintenance, inspection and new works (running projects) and must be registered with the Malawi Board of Engineers.
  • They should have knowledge of general mechanics, electrical or telecommunications engineering and also knowledge of safety laws and regulations.
  • Good knowledge of the Rail Industry and in-depth knowledge of the Laws of Malawi (Railways Act and related Regulations) are desirable.
Duties
  • Enforce infrastructure safety standards and their adherence through on-going inspections;
  • Ensure infrastructure assessment and produce reports thereof;
  • Investigate railway related accidents and incidents in liaison with relevant stakeholders, etc.

Post: Chief Operations Officer (Grade F)
Salary: Within the Grade F salary scale segment
Location:   Railway Services Department, Lilongwe
Qualifications
  • Applicants should be in possession of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering specialized in either Mechanical, Civil or Electrical Telecommunications Engineering obtained from accredited institutions with a minimum of five (5) years post-graduate work experience in maintenance, inspection and new works (running projects) and must be registered with the Malawi Board of Engineers.
  • They should also have good working knowledge of the Rail Industry as well as knowledge of general mechanics, electrical and telecommunications engineering.
  • Experience in Rail Operations and in-depth knowledge of the laws of Malawi (Railways Act and related Regulations) including knowledge of safety laws and regulations are desirable.
Duties
  • Enforce railway operations safety standards and their adherence through on-going inspections;
  • Ensure records, statistics and technical documentations are formalized and updated;
  • Set standards related to railway infrastructure, etc.

Post: Landscape Architect (Grade I)
Salary: Within the Grade I salary scale segment
Location: Buildings Department
Qualifications
  • Applicants should be Senior Landscape Technicians (Grade J) with a minimum of four (4) years experience at that grade and in possession of a bachelor s degree in either Landscape, Architecture or Horticulture obtained from accredited institutions.
Duties
  • Conduct feasibility studies, evaluate and draft environment impact assessment;
  • Prepare strategic landscape plans,
  • Designs working drawings;
  • Prepare budget estimates and programmes for the section,
  • Assist in the drafting of landscape;
  • Encourage community to participate in landscape and environmental projects, etc.

Post: Architect (Grade I)
Salary: Within the Grade I salary scale segment
Location: Buildings Department
Qualifications
  • Applicants should be Senior Architectural Technicians (Grade)) with a minimum of four (4) years experience at that grade and in possession of a bachelor’s degree in Architecture obtained from accredited institutions.
Duties
  • Design Government Building projects,
  • Administer Government contracts;
  • Coordinate projects assigned to private consultants;
  • Prepare projects progress reports, etc.

Post: Road Transport Officer (Grade I)
Salary: Within the Grade I salary scale segment
Location: Road Traffic Department
Qualifications
  • Applicants should be in possession of a bachelor’s degree in either Mechanical Engineering or Auto-Mobile Engineering obtained from accredited institutions.
Duties
  • Authorize vehicle registration, Inspection for COF, Valuation accident investigation;
  • Process driving schools and instructors licences applications;
  • Inspect or drive schools, vehicle inspection stations and Weighbridge stations;
  • Plan and budget, etc.
Note:
Documentary evidence of major requirements specified in the advertisement shall be needed during interviews. Serving officers will also be required to demonstrate during the interviews that they are permanent and pensionable officers in the Civil Service by producing letters of confirmation in appointment in addition to letters of appointment (PSR 19).
