Microfinance Expert - Technical Assistance Programme to various EIBFinancial Sector Operations in Southern Africa Mozambique, Zambia, Malawi and Botswana
Objectives of the role
The Microfinance Expert will work in collaboration with the Key Expert team to provide the required technical assistance to the financial sector operations in the Southern Africa region, specifically in Mozambique, Zambia, Malawi and Botswana. The role will include (but is not limited to) the implementation of the 4 main project components which include the assurance of the smooth flow of the Global Loan Allocation Request from the EIB's Financial Intermediary borrowers, the provision of targeted capacity building to financial intermediaries, the organisation or various M/SME support actions aimed at raising the level of financial literacy and management capacity and, finally, the creation and implementation of extensive training curricula and launch training programmes for financial intermediaries and M/SMEs.

Qualifications and Skills
  • University degree, preferably in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Banking, or related field; or equivalent professional experience
  • Speak/write English with native level proficiency
  • Fluency in Portuguese would be highly advantageous
General Professional Experience
  • Minimum of 8 years in the financial and credit analysis function in a microfinance department of a commercial bank, or a consulting firm specialising in MSME capacity building activities
  • Experience in organising events for MSMEs in order to promote microfinance
  • Track record in managing microfinance capacity building activities aimed at raising financial literacy, improving managerial capacity and building entrepreneurship skills of MSMEs in order to help them present bankable projects to FIs
  • Advanced skills in financial analysis and financial reporting
Specific Professional Experience
  • Good analytical skills in microfinance project finance planning and implementation (market and financial analysis risk analysis techniques, and ability to implement computer based models to analyse balance sheets, calculate key financial ratios, and make proactive recommendations in drafting loan documentation and security arrangements)
  • Practical experience and proven track record in organising and delivering microfinance training programmes and development of curricula and training materials
  • Good analytical skills in economic and SME project finance planning and implementation, fully conversant with market and financial analysis risk analysis techniques with the and ability to implement computer based models to analyse balance sheets and calculate key financial ratios for lending analysis
  • Commercial lending experience to the microfinance sector would be an asset
