Data and Field Officer

D-tree International is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of health care available to the world’s poor by using hand held technology to provide accurate and effective point-of-care diagnosis and treatment. Our vision is to equip frontline health workers with the tools they need to deliver first-class, evidence-based medical care to all patients. We are pursuing this vision by putting easy to use guidelines for diagnosis and treatment on mobile phones for use by health workers. The symptom-based protocols guide the user through a series of questions leading to an accurate diagnosis and treatment for each patient.
We are seeking a Data and Field Officer for our mobile health projects in Malawi, who will be supporting both our community and facility based implementations. The position will be based in Lilongwe with frequent travel to implementation field sites.
We seek a candidate who is motivated, interested in health care and technology, open to innovative ideas and technology, efficient, eager to work hard and a team player. The position will require working closely with health workers, district and clinic level supervisors, the partner organizations and the D-tree team to implement the programs. Main responsibilities will include data monitoring and analysis, training health workers and managers to use it, and educating supervisors in using and managing electronic data. We expect the candidate to be able to contribute to problem solving in a pro-active manner.
Job Responsibilities
We are looking for a candidate who is willing to take on any tasks that are required to make our projects successful. For this position we are particularly looking for someone who will take responsibility for the data coming in through our mobile application projects as well as be involved in our field activities. This will include:
Data monitoring and analysis
  • Monitoring data, identifying potential anomalies, interesting trends and resolving any problems with the incoming data
  • Liaise with Ministry of Health officials about the mobile application data and utilization of data for decision making and follow up
  • Ad hoc analysis and reporting, as needed
Coordination of health worker and supervisor activities
  • Planning facility and community application deployments
  • Designing and implementing trainings and follow up sessions
  • Provide support to users both remotely and in the field
Reporting
  • Write field and project reports
  • Review, evaluate and present reports
Basic IT skills and troubleshooting
  • Preparing phones for deployment
  • Testing of applications
  • Basic troubleshooting for mobile phones
Communications
  • Communicate clearly with country director and project manager, as well as virtual teams on progress in implementing field activities and any challenges to be addressed
Required Skills and Experience
  • Work experience: Minimum 3 years experience in M&E and/or IT/statistics; experience in health desirable.
  • Professional qualification: Minimum Bachelor’s degree in IT/statistics or public health, Master’s degree desirable.
  • Language: Excellent written and spoken English and Chichewa
  • Telephone/Computer: Familiar with use of mobile telephone and good computer skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time within Malawi.
