We have two outstanding opportunities for individuals with at least ten years’ background in the practice of law to provide legal and policy advice to Commonwealth countries. These roles fall within the Law Development Section of our Rule of Law Division, which promotes the rule of law as a driver for good governance and sustainable development across our 53 member countries. 
 
In both roles, you will have responsibility for the results-based management of projects; and identifying areas for research and policy development, on an individual basis and as part of a team. As Legal Advisers, you will ensure the effectiveness, quality and relevance of advice; as project leaders you will conduct reviews, determine scope and delivery channels; as well as develop model laws. Further, you will develop strategic partnerships and initiatives, prepare policy papers and represent the Secretariat at meetings and international conferences as required.
 
International Development Law
 
You will have senior level experience in at least two areas of law including public international law, private international law, international humanitarian law or emerging areas of the law such as climate change, international trade and investment, the impact of measures against cybercrime on privacy, and data protection. Your role as a leader in the provision of legal and policy advice on public and private international law, international humanitarian law as well as in emerging areas of the law is fundamental to the realisation of sustained economic growth in Commonwealth member countries. Also you will instruct, supervise and review consultants.
 
Legislative Support & Law Reform
 
Your senior level experience in constitutional law, administrative law and legislative drafting and/or management of programmes in legislative support and law reform will stand you in good stead to lead our legislative support and law reform programme. You will have had experience in implementing programmes to formulate strategies to build capacity in legislative drafting skills, strengthening drafting offices and generating effective law reforms to enhance good governance and sustainable development. 
To be considered for one of these roles, you must be a citizen of a Commonwealth country.
