Project manager for Rural Development and Income Generation along the Nacala Corridor

The SNV is a non-profit international development organization. Founded in the Netherlands 50 years ago, we have been building a continuous local presence in 39 countries among the poorest ones in Asia, Africa and Latin America. Our team of local and international advisors work with local partners towards equipping communities, firms and organizations with tools, knowledge and the connections they need to increment their income and access basic services, while also training them to break the poverty chain, and thus being able to orient their own development. Our activities are centred in three intervention areas: Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, Agriculture and Renewable Energy Sources.
As part of its programme, the SNV intends to implement a Rural Development Programme focused on the promotion of agriculture and income generation along 10 districts in Nacala corridor, through the provinces of Nampula and Niassa. For that matter, it’s looking at hiring a Project Manager who will be based in Nampula city.
The project has the following components: (i) Develop, implement and monitor integrated programmes for the promotion of sustainable food security and revenue, based on family income agriculture, fishing activities and other inclusive business niches with the potential to improve the socio-economic indicators of target communities, and focused on the mitigation of impacts caused by the development of the Nacala corridor.      

Key responsibilities:
  • With the involvement of partners, create operational plans for the project implementation, as well as the due Monitoring and Evaluation instruments;
  • Elaborate strategies and secure their implementation aimed at the improvement of agricultural productivity and market access for producers;
  • Promote a sustainable, inclusive and market oriented artisanal fishery, in the coastal districts covered by the Project;
  • Lead baseline studies and ensure analytic progress reports of quality;
  • Manage and energize a work team which will include 3 agronomy and rural development advisors as well as 11 agricultural field monitors;
  • Implement planned activities as per deadlines and established targets and objectives;
  • Develop partnerships to maximize the project impact and be accountable to the local Governments and stakeholders;
  • Document and share the models developed out of the project’s implementation and ensure its multiplication, particularly for social responsibility projects.
 Requirements:
  • Higher Education in Agronomy, Economics/Management or related fields, with practical knowledge of Projects Management oriented to Rural Development and capacity to plan, manage and motivate a work team, including reporting task;
  • Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in the field of rural development or field work;
  • Solid dominion of projects’ management;
  • Knowledge of the value chain of the main economic activities on the implementation area (agriculture and fishery);
  • Command of participatory data collection techniques and GIS packages;
  • Knowledge on the promotion of rural markets;
  • Capacity to facilitate micro-credit programmes and income generation, particularly for women;
  • Training of trainers, oriented for the promotion of agriculture, nutrition and income generation activities;
  • Knowledge in the field Participatory Local Governing;
  • Capacity to develop analytic reports of quality and have solid computer skills as a user;
  • Fluency in Portuguese and good communication level in English;
  • Capacity to adjust to field work and under pressure.      

Availability: Immediate 
Contract Duration: 18 Months.
