Position: Deputy Chief of Party
Location: Maputo, Mozambique
Background:
The overall goal of Strengthening Agribusinesses and Fostering Rural Alimentation (SAFRA) project is to increase the productivity and competitiveness of Mozambique’s agribusiness sector through the development of competitive selected agricultural value chains and to improve the nutritional status of pregnant and lactating women and children less than five years of age (with special focus on children 0 to 24 months of age) by strengthening the linkages between agriculture, nutrition, and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH).
Direct project beneficiaries will include Mozambican smallholder farmers, small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), farmer associations, and cooperatives operating in farming, agro processing, marketing, and exporting activities. The project will also benefit rural households with increased income and better nutritional status especially among children and women.
The Deputy Chief of Party will support the Chief of Party in attaining project goals and objectives by providing technical advice and direction when appropriate.
Responsibilities:
· Support the Chief of Party in attaining project goals and objectives by providing technical advice and direction when appropriate as well as administrative oversight.
· Provide day-to-day oversight of implementation of all project components according to agreed-upon work plans; conduct regular supervisory visits to the field operations.
· Assist in oversight of program monitoring, financial management, evaluation, and regular reporting to USAID.
· Serve as a liaison to USAID and partners in the field, including government officials, private sector partners and community leaders.
· Coordinate with relevant stakeholders in all aspects of project planning, monitoring, and implementation for improving value chain competitiveness.
  • Work to ensure that cross-cutting objectives focused on addressing gender and youth inequality, building local capacity, and utilizing ICT tools are integrated into program activities.
· Oversee program results reporting and communication products.
· Assist with management of relationships with local organizations, private sector stakeholders and government bodies.
· Contribute to preparation of work plans, financial, logistical and other documents.
Minimum Requirements:· Master’s Degree in a relevant area (Business Administration, Agricultural Economics, Rural Development, Management, or related field).
· At least ten (10) years of progressive experience in relevant technical areas such as economic growth, agriculture, sanitation and/or nutrition, is required.
· Prior experience in a management role of a project of similar size
· Demonstrated ability to address the conceptual framework of the program.
· Five (5) years of relevant work experience in Sub-Saharan African or similar development context.
· Familiarity with USAID policies and procedures.
· Fluency in English; Working knowledge of Portuguese.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Experience working in Southern Africa preferred; experience working in Mozambique highly desired
