Junior Officer, Membership and Governance

ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability is the world's leading association of over 1,000 metropolises, cities, and urban regions dedicated to promoting global sustainability through local action. Our Members represent 20 per cent of the world's urban population and work on greening their economies and infrastructure and becoming sustainable, resilient, resource-efficient, biodiverse, low-carbon and healthy and happy. ICLEI works on a non-for-profit basis through a World Secretariat in Bonn, Germany and 18 Regional Secretariats and Country Offices around the globe.
ICLEI is an organization both comprised and driven by its Members.
In a membership organization such as ICLEI, the power to determine strategic direction is held by the Members. Regional and global governance bodies in place are made up of ICLEI Members, elected by their peers. Every three years ICLEI Members embark on a global democratic process to elect representatives that will define policy and the future for the entire association.
The ICLEI global network of Members, that currently reaches 86 countries, is made up of local governments that support the association by means of an annual membership fee. In turn, Members have access to the varied array of programs, projects, events and other opportunities provided by ICLEI worldwide. Connecting and maintaining this network is one of the cornerstones to our work.
