Chisomo Children’s Club is a faith based organisation with centres in Lilongwe and Blantyre which aims to bring long term change in the lives of boys and girls who are living, working and/or begging on the streets, enabling them to have a hope and a future. Through a recent grant, Chisomo has been able to open up new programs at their centres for outreach, rehabilitation, family re-integration and court diversion services. We are looking for committed enthusiastic people to join our team.
1. Job Title: Monitoring and Evaluation Officer- Based in Lilongwe
Job Purpose:
To ensure that we are collecting, collating and sharing quality data through ongoing monitoring activities and periodic evaluations, in order to aid good decision-making, generate learning and demonstrate the impact of the projects on the lives children, families and communities
Duties:
The M&E Officer will be responsible for:
a. Development and use of data collection tools and guidance materials
b. Quality checking, providing feedback and training on monitoring data collection with CCC team
c. Computerization and collation of data on a monthly basis
d. Compiling monthly reports for use by senior management and partners
e. Compiling results for donor and government reports
f. Coordination and participation in periodic evaluations
With previous experience in developing, setting up and undertaking data collection and analysis activities, you need to be computer literate, with good knowledge and experience of Excel and other data processing software, and the ability to work with attention to detail and accuracy. With your commitment to achieving high standards and your self- motivated outlook, you will be keen to make a positive contribution to the lives of vulnerable children.
Qualification and Experience:
The ideal candidate should have the following qualification and skills:
a. A degree in a relevant field, preferably statistics, IT or in the social sciences, with practical experience in the monitoring and evaluation in a development setting, particularly in child welfare.
b. More than 3 years experience of managing M&E activities within a medium-sized NGO
c. Understanding of the functioning of monitoring systems including data collection (methods and tools), storage and analysis which promotes learning
d. Knowledge of and a commitment to child-friendly and participatory data collection, analysis and reporting
e. High level capacity in using both word-processing and spreadsheet computer software, as well as database and statistical packages
f. Capacity to write clear and relevant reports with a high level of English
2. Job Title: Social Worker (Family re-integration and follow up focus)- Blantyre
Job Purpose
To undertake all general social work activities and counseling of children in order to assist them in:
a. dealing with past trauma/abuse/abandonment and being able to rebuild their lives and look to the future in positive ways;
b. growing in positive social skills and behavior, learning non-violent ways of expressing emotions, especially anger/frustration, and growing in self-worth and self-esteem;
c. coming to the point of deciding ‘the next step’ in their lives releasing their potential as they take this next step.
Duties:
a. Undertake regular one-to-one counseling sessions with children.
b. Ensure children are participating in group discussion/counseling sessions and other activities to learn positive behavior.
c. Assist children to develop a plan for the future and enable and support them in practical as well as emotional/psycho-social ways to implement their plan.
d. Contribute to the regular child care review meetings to assess their progress through the program and to work together as a team to help individual children/their behaviors/their life-plans.
e. Be the lead person to ensure families/careers are supported and enabled in the family tracing, reintegration, placement and follow-up processes.
f. With your previous experience, organize, training sessions in appropriate listening, counseling and communication skills for children and youths.
g. Participate in delivery of the life-skills lessons programme.
h. Keep good, accurate and confidential records of all counseling sessions as well as accurate M&E records of all activities.
i. Make appropriate professional referrals for children who require psychological, psychiatric or legal assessment/treatment.
j. Participate in street outreach programs and undertake advocacy and awareness raising of issues around children.
k. Assist and encourage children to participate in Bible Club activities
Qualification and Work Experience:
A Bachelor of Social Sciences with a major in social work and practical experience in counselling.
Three years relevant post graduate experience especially in child related work.
