Role in Organization:
CAMRIS seeks a qualified Chief of Party for an anticipated multi-year USAID/Malawi funded project called Integrating Nutrition in Value Chains II in Malawi. The Chief of Party will work closely with USAID to ensure that project objectives are met and exceeded. The Chief of Party must maintain responsive communication and actions associated with USAID’s needs amid a dynamic and challenging operational environment. The Chief of Party will be ultimately responsible for managing the project staff and ensuring outstanding performance of the project and high quality deliverables.
Job Description:
Essential functions, duties, responsibilities:
- Provide management, strategic direction and oversight to the project/program’s technical, administrative and financial performance.
- Ensure compliance with USAID and CAMRIS rules, regulations and policies while meeting project/program targets.
- Liaise frequently and regularly with a variety of public and private stakeholders, including USAID staff, project participants, implementing partners, local, regional and national governments, international organizations and donors as well as staff in similar projects.
- Lead the design and ensure the responsiveness and quality of capacity building and technical assistance services delivered to USAID.
- Identify and anticipates issues related to implementation and designs appropriate adjustments.
- Integrate gender and local context into programming and activities.
- Attend local, regional and international meetings, as required.
- Act as the primary point of contact between the project, USAID, and CAMRIS headquarters.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
The Chief of Party will supervise several technical and administrative positions.
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in a relevant field, such as agriculture, health, international development/relations, or social services. A PhD is preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience working with farmers, preferably for USAID.
- Strong knowledge of and experience in USAID rules and regulations, particularly as they pertain to compliance and reporting.
- At least three years of experience working in Southeast Africa, Malawi experience highly preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Excellent writing and presentation ability, with demonstrated experience working constructively with high-level government counterparts.
- Experience working with and providing recommendations on creating and refining performance monitoring plans (PMPs).
- Experience managing large international development project budgets.
- Ability to manage budgets and client expectations.
- Demonstrated effectiveness in communicating with clients and project stakeholders.
- Experience in facilitating multi-sectorial and multi-country partnerships.
- Proven record of consistently outperforming targets.
- Professional fluency in English required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint required.
Work Environment: This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position, and regular hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Travel: Travel throughout Malawi and Southeast Africa is expected. Regional or international travel may be required.
