Finance and Admin Director

Theatre for a Change (TfaC) is an organisation locally registered in Malawi with the Council for Non-Governmental Organisations (CONGOMA) and the NGO Board. We have been working in Malawi since 2007 with the goal to improve the sexual and reproductive health of vulnerable and marginalised groups.
TfaC’s vision is to see vulnerable and marginalised groups empowered with the knowledge, awareness and skills to positively transform their lives, and the lives of others, at local, national and international levels.
The Finance and Admin Director is a key part of the Senior Management Team. S/he will work closely with the TfaC Malawi Country Director to achieve the organisation's vision. Job aims:
  1. To develop and maintain finance, operations and accounting systems which support the effective implementation of programmes.
  2. To ensure that internal financial and operational control systems meet international audit and donor standards
  3. To ensure legal compliance for working in Malawi.
Key deliverables:
  1. Planning: Deliver a comprehensive set of organisation-wide budget documents, (including accurately phased annual plans, longer term projections, cash-flow forecasts and programme specific budgets) which are developed collaboratively with the Country Director, TfaC UK Finance Director, members of the management team and programme staff.
  2. Monitoring and Reporting: Provide accurate, timely and informative management reports (including reports related to individual donors) based on senior management, donor and programme manager requirements.
  3. Financial Systems: Effectively line manage the Senior Finance Manager to ensure TfaC Malawi has and implements financial and accounting systems which support the effective implementation of programmes and which meet donor and international standards. Ensure timely and accurate making of payments, requests for funds from donors, and reconciliations.
  4. Donor Liaison: Deliver realistic project proposal budgets, accurate and timely donor financial reports, effective contract negotiation and good relations with donors to ensure that TfaC is able to comply with multiple donor requirements.
  5. Operations, Procurement and Administration: Effectively line manage the Operations Manager to ensure effective planning and delivery of Operations, Procurement and Administration.
  6. TfaC Partnership and international compliance: Ensure TfaC Malawi financial and HR procedures are compliant with TfaC Partnership requirements and contribute to organisational development.
  7. Strategic Leadership: Deputise for the Country Director to ensure effective delivery of TfaC’s goal and strategic plan.
Essential skills, qualities and experience:
  • ACCA/ACA/CPA (or other equivalent) qualified accountant
  • 5 years experience working with non-governmental organisations in progressively senior roles
  • At least 3 years experience at Senior Management Level
  • Excellent understanding of business and financial planning including strategic modelling
  • Excellent analytical skills – the ability to analyse complex financial data and design and produce effective management information
  • Excellent experience of budgeting and budget management
  • Excellent understanding of financial, operational and administrative systems and procedures
  • Ability to contribute to lead strategic decisions
  • Excellent experience of computerised accounts packages, Excel, PowerPoint, QuickBooks and Word
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage a complex and diverse workload and to work to tight deadlines
  • Ability to build a proactive and high performing team, motivating staff and working collaboratively with colleagues and providing support and advice as necessary
  • Understanding of TfaC’s vision and mission and a commitment to its objective and values
  • Written and verbal fluency in English
