TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT MANAGER at Malawi Telecommunications Limited (MTL)

MTL invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced Malawian candidates to fill the vacancy of Training and Development Manager based at its office in Blantyre.

MTL is the incumbent operator with both fixed and wireless networks spanning across all the three (3) Regions.

MTL has a national and international fibre optic backbone and is the leading provider of Voice and Data services in the country, serving both Corporate and Individual customers on the market.
Reporting to the Head of Human Resources, the principal tasks of the role are:

Strategic Objective of the Company
  • Identifies training and development needs within the organization through the performance management system and in consultations with the line managers to support the Company’s Strategic Objectives.
  • Devises or organizes relevant course content and arranges its delivery either internally or externally.
  • Plans and coordinates the induction and on the job training of new employees.
  • Conducts training needs analysis
  • Sources and identifies training providers to deliver training based on the training needs analysis.
  • Negotiates with training providers on the cost, content, location and timing of training programmes.
  • Processes training bonds for employees on training sponsored by the organization.
  • Processes education loans as well as educational loan refunds in line with the training policy and conditions of service.
  • Participates in the recruitment, placement and mentoring process of management trainees.
  • Coordinates student attachments with the organization.
  • Prepares, monitors and controls expenditure against the annual training budget.
  • Ensures that the cost of training is apportioned to the correct department in line with the budget.
  • Reviews the training programmes and evaluates their impact on employee performance.
  • Processes applications for visas, Temporary Residence Permits and other related travel documents with the appropriate authorities for those travelling outside the country and expatriates coming to Malawi.
  • Liaises with stakeholders that offer training programmes like CTO, ITU, ESAMI, AFRALTI and TEVETA on upcoming programmes for employee participation.
  • Compiles monthly training and development reports.
  • Advises management on training interventions suitable to the organization
  • Recommends the updating of the training policy.
  • Processes TEVETA Claims.

  • Bachelor of Arts Human Resources Management or its equivalent with a minimum of five years’ experience in human resources management and development with specialisation in the provision of training service delivery. Possession of a Trainers of Trainers Certificate will be an added advantage.
