Landirani Trust is a small NGO based in Malawi and supported from the UK. Our vision is for a healthy, educated and self-sufficient community in Malawi.
We work in an area North West of Lilongwe Airport that is 400sq KM in size, with 14 centres, population of 45,000 and around 3,000 direct beneficiaries who are orphans and/or vulnerable.
Following the receipt of dedicated funding for the completion of our Training Village project, ‘Sam’s Village’, we now have 3 full time vacancies to join our small but committed and enthusiastic team. We are seeking a Project Manager, Architect and Project Accountant to ensure that this major project is completed on time and within budget and that everyone on the team is doing their job as effectively and efficiently as possible.
Project Manager
Main Duties
There are numerous separate projects within the overall sphere of the training village project and depending on each of these sub projects your responsibilities can cover all aspects from the design stage through to completion and handover.
As the Project Manager you will be expected to lead by example, so expect to be working at least the same hours as your staff.
1 Agreeing project objectives
2 Representing the interest of the Trust
3 Providing independent advice on the management of projects
4 Organising the various professional people working on a project
5 Risk assessment
6 Making sure that all the aims of the project are met
7 Making sure the quality standards are met
8 Using IT as appropriate to keep track of people and progress
9 Recruiting specialists and sub-contractors
10 Monitoring sub-contractors to ensure guidelines are maintained
11 Holding regular monitoring meetings and reporting to relevant stakeholders on progress
12 Accounting, costing and billing alongside a Project Accountant
Person Specification – skills and qualities
Essential
• IT literate and able to use PCs/laptops to write reports, record data etc including good working knowledge of Microsoft Project 2010
• Excellent organization skills
• Analytical and numerate
• Commercial awareness
• Understanding of eco building and specifically rammed earth & thatching
• Good communication skills, both written and oral
• Excellent team worker, able to motivate people
• Well developed management skills.
• Experience and/or knowledge of working within rural communities in Malawi with an understanding of the challenges presented
• Mobile and wiling/able to travel to and from Lilongwe/the field.
• Able to stay on site in a rural situation
• Self-starting and self-motivated, able to plan resources to deliver results
• Resourceful and inquiring
• Able to speak and write in Chichewa and English to a good standard
• Professional and courteous
• Committed to helping orphans and vulnerable people
• Honest and reliable
• Full clean driving licence
Desirable
 A good degree, preferably in a project management related discipline
 A significant body of experience in the field of project management which may include being part of a project management professional or chartered body.
