Position Summary
IREX seeks a Civil Society Specialist to provide expertise for an anticipated USAID-funded civil society strengthening project in Malawi. The Civil Society Specialist will develop strategies and manage program components related to building the capacity of civil society organizations in Malawi as well as deliver technical assistance to partners.
The position is contingent on funding.

Duties & Responsibilities
· Provide expertise in civil society strengthening for Malawi, including identifying strengths and gaps, and developing program strategies to build capacity
· Provide direct technical assistance to Malawi partners and beneficiaries in areas including organizational development, advocacy, outreach and policy analysis
· Conduct needs assessments and organizational analyses for civil society organizations and networks
· Contribute to preparation of annual work plans and other aspects of the program strategy
· Assist in managing effective monitoring, evaluation and reporting of program activities
Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in relevant field; Master's degree is preferred
· Detailed understanding of the civil society sector in Malawi
· Demonstrated success in supporting and strengthening Malawi civil society, preferably through international donor-supported programs
· Proven ability to communicate skills and experience to others effectively as a trainer or advisor
· Proven ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative relationships with civil society groups, opinion leaders, the media, government officials and representatives of the international community at the national and local levels
· Prior experience in coordinating with national and international organizations is highly desired
· Professional proficiency in English is required
