OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
To provide high-quality immunization services to all communities in order to prevent mortality, morbidity and disability from diseases which are preventable through the optimum use of current and future available vaccines.
Description of duties:
The incumbent will work under the guidance of the IST Coordinator and the direct supervision of the IST/Immunization Focal Point, to perform the following duties:-
1) Support WHO EPI staff at the country level as well as EPI staff at the national level to:
  • Plan, organize, monitor and lead efficient material and information flows required for ensuring that vaccines, drugs, other medical products, supplies, equipment, personnel and financial resources are available in the right place, at the right time, in the right quantities and at the right quality throughout the country in order to meet, in a cost-effective way, the needs of immunization and other integrated progammes.
  • Identify and prioritize problems impeding the proper functioning of logistics and supply chain systems in the countries, plan and provide technical support required in order to alleviate these problems and improve the performance of the logistics and supply chain systems.
  • Develop national capacities in all areas of logistics and supply chain through the organization of training, supervision and direct on-site support activities.
  • Develop national policies, norms and procedures applicable in the different areas of logistics and supply chain (i.e. cold chain and vaccine management, injection safety, etc.).
  • Identify needs for operational research in the different areas of integrated logistics and supply chain and support planning, budgeting and implementation of relevant operational research projects.
  • Budget the costs of the required logistics support and activities to meet programme objectives, identify potential donors and mobilize the required resources.
2) Plan, budget and implement technical assistance to countries in the area of logistics and supply chain as well as inter-country logistics activities (e.g. training courses, workshops, meetings, etc.)
3) Prepare reports and provide regular feedback to the Regional Office and concerned countries concerning the progress achieved, the constraints encountered and proposed solutions in the operational aspects of immunization and other integrated programmes.
4) Perform other duties assigned by the first level supervisor.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Essential: Post-graduate university degree in physical sciences, engineering or related studies is required.
Desirable: Additional degree/training in logistics, cold chain or related areas is an asset.
Skills:
Technical expertise in logistics.
Ability to provide leadership, to monitor progress and to design studies.
Good inter-personal communication skills and ability to interact effectively in a multi-cultural environment.
Computer literacy. Familiarity with software of common use.
Experience:
Essential: Seven (7) years of experience with a minimum of 5 years of international experience in immunization logistics planning, monitoring, evaluation, training and management.
Desirable: Experience with UN agencies or nongovernmental organizations. Previous work in Africa would be an advantage.
Languages:
Excellent knowledge of English or French, with a good working knowledge of the other language.
Annual salary:
(Net of tax)
USD 67483 at single rate
USD 72467 with primary dependants
Post Adjustment:
% of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
