UN WOMEN: TRAINING PROGRAMME COORDINATOR

Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.   
In collaboration with relevant UN Women sections at Headquarters and in the field, the Training Centre develops and implements training for gender equality with UN Women’s strategy for government and civil society partners, the UN system, and UN Women staff. It develops training programmes in gender equality and empowerment of women, in close partnership with ICT ILO and other UN training institutions, making maximum use of on-line training techniques. 
The Training Programme Coordinator post is based at the UN Women Training Centre in Santo Domingo. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Chief of the Training Centre and in close collaboration with the Learning and Knowledge Management units at UN Women HQ. The Training/Capacity Development Specialist will provide support towards the further development and operation of the Training Centre to meet the needs for training for gender equality worldwide.

Duties and Responsibilities

Summary of Key Functions:
  • Implement pedagogical principles and best practices into developing training programmes and monitor their effectiveness and relevancy;
  • Establish baselines on Training for Gender Equality and monitor standards;
  • Apply new technologies in developing online programmes, courses, materials in collaboration with other UN Women colleagues;
  • Develop partnerships for curricula;
  • Coordinate the consolidation and development of online platforms (including Roster and Gender Training Community of Practice (CoP), etc.
Description of Key Functions:
Implement pedagogical principles and best practices into developing training programmes and monitor their effectiveness and relevancy:
  • Advise and consult on pedagogical best practices for gender training courses;
  • Develop training materials, programmes and user manuals;
  • Provide training on the use of these manuals under the pedagogic quality standards;
  • Identify and respond to training activities for UN Women staff , UN system Staff and partners;
  • Coordinate the development of new online tools, surveys and other pilot projects;
  • Conduct the evaluation of the adequacy of existing training and training tools for gender training and make pedagogic adaptations as needed;
  • Monitor delivery of work against plans and report on progress;
  • Participate in the preparation of annual work plans for training/capacity building .
Establish baselines of Gender Training:
  • Coordinate the development and analysis of needs assessment surveys;
  • Design, plan and organize the development, implementation, testing  and evaluation of new on line applications on Gender Training;
  • Manage the record-keeping and data management of training and capacity development initiatives;
  • Serve as focal point for monitoring and evaluation initiatives related to training for gender equality;
  • Establish and develop effective working partnerships with counterparts;
Apply new technologies to the development of online courses and materials in collaboration with UN Women IT personnel and webmasters: 
  • Lead application of new technologies to the development of online courses and training materials;
  • Keep abreast of available technology, and apply it appropriately in the work of the Center;
  • Keep  abreast of new developments, approaches and best practices on gender training;
  • Manage and coordinate knowledge networks and communities of practice;
Develop partnerships for curricula:
  • Lead in the establishment of partnerships with reputable training entities within and outside the UN System;
  • Develop partnerships with individual and institutional experts in thematic areas covered by course development.
Coordinate the consolidation and development of online platforms (including Roster and Gender Training Community of Practice (CoP), etc.): 
  • Monitor that training information and tools are regularly used, relevant, updated and accurate;
  • Lead the establishment and maintenance of thematic sections within the Gender Training Community of Practice;
  • Manage the membership of the CoP, ensuring regular communication and synthesis of best practices and lessons learned;
  • Ensure articulation between Training for gender Equality, CoP and Virtual Campus. 
Impact of Results:
The appropriate design and efficient and prompt delivery of services will contribute to positioning the Training Centre as the leader on Gender Training among the UN training institutions.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:
  • Master degree or equivalent in Education and/or Pedagogical Sciences;
  • Studies in Gender an asset.
Experience:
  • A minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in the fields of pedagogy, training/capacity development related to gender;
  • Experience in implementing training approaches for gender equality is required;
  • Experience in the design and management of gender e-Learning materials is required;
  • Experience at the international level is highly desirable.
Language:
  • Fluency in written and spoken English. Working knowledge of Spanish required and knowledge of French desirable;
  • Knowledge of additional official UN language is an asset .

In July 2010, the United Nations General Assembly created UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. The creation of UN Women came about as part of the UN reform agenda, bringing together resources and mandates for greater impact. It merges and builds on the important work of four previously distinct parts of the UN system (DAW, OSAGI, INSTRAW and UNIFEM), which focused exclusively on gender equality and women's empowerment.
