The Malawi-Liverpool-Wellcome Trust Programme (MLW) is an internationally recognised centre for research and research training led by Malawian & International Scientists, improving the health of people in Malawi and elsewhere in the Region (http://www.mlw.medcol.mw). MLW has a unique translational research portfolio that links an excellent laboratory research base to strong hospital and community-based research teams. The MLW research strategy focuses on four research themes with strong national and international collaborative links: Malaria; TB & HIV; Non-Communicable Diseases; and Microbes, Immunity & Vaccines.

MLW is now seeking to appoint two experienced Clinician Scientists to work in collaboration with the College of Medicine (COM), University of Malawi (Departments of Paediatrics and Medicine). Applicants should have MMed or MRCP (UK) or equivalent, and at least four years post-graduate clinical experience.

The positions are intended to both support the joint MLW-COM research programme and to develop the academic and leadership potential of the post holder. The post holders will have specialist medical training in paediatrics or adult medicine and some clinical research experience preferably in common diseases in Malawi. They will contribute to the regular clinical, teaching and training activities of the COM, while also being involved in collaborative MLW-COM research that is undertaken within their respective Departments. This position is ideally suited for a clinician scientist currently based abroad who wishes to re-enter an academic career in Malawi.

Grade: Lecturer equivalent or above (provided the post holder has completed specialist training).Salary will be determined according to past experience and qualifications. Both positions are tenable for a fixed term of 2 years in the first instance with possibility of further extensions.
