Our partner is one of the oldest and biggest churches in Malawi. It has 170 congregations and more than 1,000 prayer houses throughout the Northern region of Malawi. With about 200,000 adult members, the church reaches about 25% of the adult population in the Northern region. In its ministry, it does not only reach out to communities with spiritual care but it is also involved in development projects for education, health care, HIV&AIDS, water & sanitation, food security and civic education as these are social issues that our partner has recognised to be of the highest priority. Its Education Department has three broad programmes: construction of schools and other education facilities; providing school fees for students across Malawi; and focussing on raising awareness about and inclusion of special needs children in schools.
The role you would be undertaking is crucial to the operation of our partner organisation; primarily it would involve performing an internal audit and a financial health check on the organisation. Once you have an understanding of the organisational structure, you will be able to assess the existing financial procedures and controls. At this point you will make recommendations for change and advise on how best to implement them. Remember, your experience and expertise can be put to a good use whilst giving you an incredibly unique and rewarding experience.
In addition the Education Department of our partner organisation has recently received funding from an institutional donor and as such the finance staff would greatly appreciate some support in planning a budget, plus monitoring and reporting related to the currency fluctuations.
Our partner would ideally like someone for 3 weeks; they are able to provide allowance to cover airport pick-up & drop-off and accommodation, so that you may spend your time their doing as much good for this wonderful organisation as possible.
