The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) seeks to recruit an Audio Visual Technician who will be a member of ICT team under Administration in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
General: The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) works at the crossroads of livestock and poverty, bringing high-quality livestock science, communications and capacity building to bear on poverty reduction and sustainable development. ILRI is one of 15 centres supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). ILRI has campuses in Kenya (headquarters) and Ethiopia, with other offices located in other regions of Africa (Mali, Mozambique, and Nigeria) as well as in South Asia (India, Sri Lanka), Southeast Asia (Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam) and East Asia (China).  www.ilri.org.
Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of the ICT Site Manager, the major duties and responsibilities of the incumbent are outlined as follows:
  • Ensure that audio visual conferencing equipment is in good working condition. These are Projectors, Mixers, DIS system, Screens, Microphones, Speakers, Cameras, Amplifiers, associated desktop computers and laptops.
  • Managing and Setting up of PA system during meetings and functions and ensuring recording of meetings as required e.g. FMC as well as having them posted on the intranet as required.
  • Develop the annual preventive maintenance schedule for all AV equipment and meeting rooms and handle/facilitate the exercise.
  • Manage the Centre’s Computer Lab and ensure that equipment is in usable condition at all times.
  • Proactively develop contacts with other institutions with similar AV equipment and activities to ensure that the Centre maintains a state of the art AV equipment and practices.
  • Provide quarterly reports on e.g. Equipment and platform utilization.
  • Gather feedback on conferencing services quality from participants and opportunities to improve – Share and implement in liaison with other key staff.
  • Setup and Operate the DIS system as per the different meeting room arrangements upon clients’ request.
  • Carrying out orientation for new staff and prepare induction materials for user reference.
  • Provide “tips of the week” that will help staff run and participate in meetings efficiently.
  • Supervise students that are on attachment to the ICT Department.
  • Keep the helpdesk status up-to-date and communicate regularly with the requester to keep them informed of the status. Close the call as soon as the service has been delivered to the satisfaction of the customer.
  • Support virtual meetings and collaboration spaces (WebEx, gtalk, Skype, ustream and any others) used by the Centre to enhance meetings between staff or with partners whatever their location.
  • Conduct regular training and awareness sessions on use of available communication equipment and tools.
  • Participate as required in projects that are implemented by the ICT Customer Services team.
  • Be available to provide required support for meetings held out of office hours.
  • Provide basic ICT support to meeting participants and escalating to relevant ICT staff tasks that he/she cannot handle.
Requirements:
Education:
  • First degree in relevant field of study. 
Experience:
  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience. 
Skills and Competencies:
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong customer service orientation that establishes a good working relationship with customers, with the attitude of wanting to assist people and pass-on their knowledge and experience to others.
  • Ability to provide technical support for the conferencing systems, support both physical and virtual meeting needs of the center.
  • Advanced proficiency in the core applications used at the Centre.
  • Ability to work under high pressure to tight deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate fluently in English.
Duty Station:    Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
Position level:   2A.
Minimum Base salary:
  • Birr 9,326 per month (Negotiable, depending on experience, skill and salary history of the candidate)
Terms of appointment:  This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position; initial appointment is for three years with the possibility of renewal, contingent upon individual performance and the availability of funding. The ILRI remuneration package for nationally recruited staff in Ethiopia includes very competitive salary and benefits such as life and medical insurance, offshore pension plan, etc. The ILRI campus is set in a secure, attractive campus on the outskirts of Addis Ababa. Dining and sports facilities are located on site.
