This post is located in the Office of the Special Adviser on Africa, Coordination, Advocacy and Programme Development Branch. The Office of the Special Adviser on Africa is responsible for mobilising international cooperation in support of the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) and the achievement of Millennium Development Goals in Africa and coordinating UN systemwide support for NEPAD. The incumbent will report to the Chief, Coordination, Advocacy and Programme Development Branch.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in Communication, Journalism, Economics or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in public information, strategic communications and development. Experience in peace, security and development issues is desirable. Experience in NEPAD is desirable. Experience in writing speeches for senior officials is desirable.

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. For this post fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
