It’s hard to believe that today 748 million people still don’t have clean, safe water and 2.5 billion live without a toilet. The resulting diseases kill one child every minute.
WaterAid is looking for two Programme Managers - Urban to play a vital role in our mission to transform lives with safe water, sanitation and hygiene in the world’s poorest communities.
One Programme Manager will be based in Nampula and will have primary responsibility for managing our projects in Quelimane and Cuamba.  You will help the Senior Programme Manager – Urban coordinate implementation of the Quelimane and Cuamba projects. In particular, you will work as Technical Assistant to the Quelimane and Cuamba municipalities, as part of a project for improving water and sanitation funded by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).
The second Programme Manager will be based in Boane and will have primary responsibility for managing our project in Boane.  You will help the Senior Programme Manager – Urban coordinate the implementation of the Boane project. In particular, you will work as Technical Assistant to the Boane Municipality and District, as part of a project for improving water and sanitation.
To be successful, you’ll need to have: 
  • University degree or professional qualification in relevant field (hydraulics, civil engineering, health, anthropology, social sciences).
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in participatory development programmes, including planning, participatory monitoring and evaluation.
  • Experience in water, sanitation and hygiene promotion, including low-cost technologies supply programmes.
  • Experience in developing and managing projects and budgets.
  • Fluency in Portuguese and English.
  • Ability to work without close supervision.
